What solvent & lubricant for LCR???

Just unpacked my new LCR-357 and read the owners manual. The manual says to use a "polymer safe" cleaner for the exterior. What do you use to clean your LCR (exterior as well as bore and chambers)? This is my first polymer revolver.

Almost any gun has some polymer on it these days. Hoppe's #9 is always good. I use Hoppe's Elite gun cleaner. It is water based, non-toxic and non-petroleum. Works good for me. 8) 8)

Just stay away from carb cleaner, brakeKleen, or "GunBlaster" spray cleaners.... they will melt the polymer.

There is a version of Gun Scrubber that has Polymer Safe on it. That's the only one of the spray cleaners that I buy anymore.

Wipe it off and run a bore snake through the barrel.....no reason to do that kind of cleaning regularly enough to worry about it. I haven't used solvent since in years for any gun or bore, just not needed in reality.

If you must, as others had said, just check that it is safe to use on the polymers, it will say it on the can most likely. Brake cleaner is definitely a NO

I am a relatively recent convert to Ballistol.

One of its primary attractions for me is its benign chemical composition. I have seen other folks claiming that it is safe for polymer (and I can't imagine that they are wrong), but I cannot find substantiation on their website.

Here is one paragraph:

Most general lubricants and corrosion inhibitors and most gun oils and gun cleaners contain rather aggressive chemicals. They contain substances such as Teflon (PTFE), silicone, tar, trichloroethane or tetrachloroethylene, which are all listed cancer causing agents. Or they contain petroleum, kerosene, benzene or chlorinated paraffins, all of which are toxic ('harmful or fatal if swallowed') for warm-blooded organisms and fish. Some are 'skin and eye irritants'. Others emit toxic vapors. Very few are biodegradable. Ballistol does not contain anything known to cause cancer. Ballistol is non-toxic for warm-blooded and aquatic organisms. Ballistol meets the criteria of the Federal Trade Commission for the claim of biodegradability and Ballistol sprays do not contain any CFCs.

If you poke around on their website, you'll find some interesting information about Ballistol. The section on "Vehicles" is fairly packed with uses. Water in your gas tank? Ballistol. Fuel additive or octane booster? Ballistol. Clean your dashboard? Ballistol. Mousetrap bait? Ballistol. Keep your razor blades sharper? Ballistol.

It is almost humorous how useful the stuff seems to be.

Thanks to everyone for the needed advice. I think I am going to try some my trusted Hoppes #9 powder solvent. Thats one of the ones that I have on hand. I really appreciate your recommendations,

Use MPRO7. It's a soap used by the military to clean artillery & aircraft guns. Non toxic & ZERO smell.

Thanks for the report about the MPro7.

MPro7 and Hoppe's Elite are the same product (manufactured by Pantheon, I believe), and I switched to the Elite (prior to discovering Ballistol) for exactly this reason. No smell.
