What rifle are you using for deer?

Well rifle deer season is almost here in my area and feel like starting up a thread to bs about rifles and what you used or plan to use thjs year.

I hunt in an area that has a lot of different terrain and can use the beanfield rifles or the old levers and say my 77/44 for the close up work depending on where the deer are moving.

Last year I used my MkII in 350 rem mag with some lets say...authorotive results! Not any tracking to speak of when you put a solid hit on a whitetail with one of these!

In the recent previous years I have used my MKII's in 7mm-08,264,and 7mags all with one shot kills. And for a few years in a row before that my No.1 in 25-06 accounted for quite a run.

Season is getting close and i still havn't decided what I'll carry this year. I'm wanting to break out a few I've not hunted with yet. A 77/44,an old Marlin 35 Rem,and my late fathers Savage 99 in 308 to name a few. I have the tried and true for backups and think the 350 is a bit overkill for whitetails but effectiveness trumps the thinking there!

Well, this may be subject to change, as I am riding to Tulsa with some friends as I type this.

My favorite shooters are my Number 1's in .243 and 7mm Rem mag, especially since I've found a little time to work up some loads that seem to work good in them. (Yep, Jeff, that 7mm mag is the #1b I bought from you :wink: ) So, I'll probably use one of those.

However, I also really like my Super Redhawk 44 mag. It'll probably come along, too.

Then again, I acquired a Deerfield carbine this summer that might be the thing.

Then again I've got a...... :wink:

So many choices! So little time!

Haha! Keep rubbing in that 7mag!! Have fun in Tulsa. Keep an eye out for a stainless No.1 in 7mm-08 for me!

That Deerfield would be a fun one. Always wanted one but never have gotten around to it yet.

Rem. 700 BDL in 7mm08
HOWA Ranchland in .308
I will choose one when I leave the cabin and sometimes change throughout the day.

since I only have a Remington 870 and a Marlin 336 in 30-30, I'd have to say I'll be using my Marlin this year. I'm in the market for a new rifle, but I can't decide on the caliber. .300 weatherby mag., 30-06, .308, or 7mm mag.

This year, it's a No. 1 A 6.5 x 55 with a Redfield Revolution 2 x 7 and 140 gr. Nolser Accubonds.

For me, it will be my Ruger #1 AH in 25-06 with Circassian walnut stock. I scoped it with a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10 in a set of Ruger factory vertical split rings that were color case hardened by Turnbull.

Depends on where the hunting will be done on a given day. Depending on the location it'll be either a #1 in .45-70, a Marlin 336D in .35 Rem or a Savage 340 in .30-30. Just didn't have time to decide on a scop and sight in the .300 H&H for this season.

For the first time in years, I won't be hunting with one of my Rugers. I bought a Marlin xl7 in a 25/06 because I wanted an 06 with a 22 in. barrel and lighter than the 77 I had in same caliber. I am getting older and just like the lighter rifles. My usual deer rifle is a 77 UL in .270. However, after having by-pass surgery 2 1/2 months ago my Dr. wanted me to shoot something with less recoil. So I broke the little Marlin in yesterday morning with a big doe.

Started this week for me. Using my M77 MKII Sporter 270 Winchester or M77 RSI 30-06. I was really hoping to get my M77 RSI stainless 7x57 ready, but I guess that will have to wait for next year.

M77 Hawkeye All Weather .308, 1B .257, 1A .257, Winchester 88 .308, or Winchester 88 .243. Usually the 77 .308 gets most of the work with 165 TBBC @ 2840 fps.

I've use just about everything over the years from 244 through 375,even shot one with a 458 just because I have one.I have a Winchester Mod 70 Winlite that I had rebarreled to 257 Wby,never needed more than one shot and a lot were over 400yds.That ended up being my choice.

I usually hunt in fairly close cover. The 375 is loaded with reduced loads that are about like a hot 375 Winchester.
