What exactly do I have?

I just picked up a Ruger 77 Hawkeye chambered for 375 Ruger, and I thought it was an Alaskan model but can't find any online references to anything that resembles what I have. The Alaskan models all apparently have a Hogue stock on them? I have seen mention of both 23" and 20" barrel, but always with the Hogue stock. Of course, the African model has a walnut stock. My gun has a black laminate stock, stainless barrel and action, right-hand, 23" barrel, and no muzzle brake. It's actually a beautiful rifle, and has the best of what I would want of all the possible combos, but I am wondering if it is even a cataloged model. Has anyone else seen one like this? It's a definite keeper for me, but I like to know all of the minute details on all of my firearms, and I can't find much on this one!

Similar, but right-hand action and 23" barrel. I'm planning on feral pigs in tight brush. That and nilgai. Both can be tough. At least that's my excuse for adding yet another rifle to the inventory. I may need something bigger for rabbits though....I've seen "Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail" enough times to know that you don't mess with rabbits!!

Don't know all the minute details but that is a factory option that came out after the initial runs of Alaskan & African releases. I personally think it is the best version. I don't care for the Hogue stock. Too sticky and too much flare at the grip. The laminate version weighs a little more and for me is the right weight & balance for the 375 Ruger.

I've only noted only one other like that. Its called a HKM77RSBBZ. Hard to tell how many they made, but can't be many. To put it in perspective, there were something over 100 in the left hand version made...but again, I've only heard of one other like yours...it being 711-37320. Send me a PM on your serial number so I can document the variation in my "Reference of Ruger Firearms" booklet.
I would also be curious as to what Ruger's model number is on the box label.

I guess I should have bought one. ;-). I saw more than one of those at different places. Seems like it was about a year or so after the release of the Alaskan model.

I'll get it out of the safe tonight and shoot the SN to you. I'd like to know everything I can about this one. It's somewhat of an enigma. A GREAT shooting enigma though! It was grouping under 1.5" with Hornady 300gr DGX factory ammo this past weekend. BTW, I don't recommend sighting in open sights, then a scope, and then some practice in varous positions with this rifle on the same day. I am not all that sensitive to recoil, but 60 rounds of full-house loads from this beast in one afternoon leave a mark! DANG it was FUN!
