Hi to all-my first post on this forum-I have learned alot from you all.I caught the Ruger bug about 2 years ago and have several New models now. This is my first old model I just picked up. I have read some in other threads about these old single sixes but there seems to be many variations-this one is 6 1/2 " barrel-stamped Win .22 RF Mag Cal-one cylinder-hard rubber grips and in Vg to EC-serial # 3192XX-is this a shooter, collector or what? Thanks for your help. I would post pictures but cant figure out how! Figured out how to post picture!

hoghead, welcome to the Forum, we are over here east of you....if you want send me any pictures and I will more than happy to help you out.....send me an e-mail.
a call to Ruger records department will tell you when it was shipped and if there was an "extra" cylinder or not.....yes, those are great guns, collectible in that condition and most likely yours came with the hard rubber grips, if not you are ahead, they are worth more anyway............the magnum marked guns were only made from 1959 to like 1964 and when you get the info from the factory , the catalog code may have the 'R' or 'W' for whichever grips came on the gun...these often got changed over the years by their owners...................sounds like a good gun.

Great old guns. A buddy of mine bought one last year. As I understand it, the "Magnum" models were .22wmr only. (no .22lr cylinder) Here's a link to the Ruger serial number history:
http://www.ruger.com/service/productHistory/RE-SSixMM.html

They were when they came out. But when Ruger started having to fit extra cylinders for those guns shipped as Mag. only from the factory (and Mag. cylinders to those guns above 150000 shipped as LR only), they decided they needed to come out with a Convertible model.
There were probably a little over 10,000 Single-Sixes produced with Magnum markings on the cylinder frame and as original from the factory as a convertible model.

Thanks for all replies-called Ruger records dept, and all lady could find was build/ship date of 12/1960-no invoice or anything else. What would the catalog number have been for this gun? RSSMR? I am definetely going to sign up for the RENE soon-too much I need to learn! Hope the picture came out good enough to see.

Shot the .22 Mag Single six yesterday. Nice to shoot and feels great in hand. However I think a stainless convertible is more suited to my needs. So here is my question, what is a 1960, .22 mag only, unconverted Single six serial #3192xx worth?

Would either be RSSMR or RSSMW depending on what grips were shipped on it originally...Rubber or Walnut. 12/60 would be too early for a convertible magnum marked gun, but close.
When the convertibles came out, they were also standard with walnut grips...so you have one of the last Magnum marked guns shipped while hard rubber was still standard.

--is this a shooter, collector or what?..... I don't think there is such a thing as a non-shooter Ruger :D . But that's coming from someone who doesn't own one that's anything special in the collector's eyes.

I see where you are coming from Scott, as Rugers being shooters! The new models I have get a regular workout, but the older guns such as this single six I am still learning about and this one seems nice so I wanted to make sure I wasnt diminishing its value much by shooting it. My sweat does not agree with blued guns either, no matter how much I oil them,so
I really dont even like handling it!
