What have I got here? Anyone know what the markings on the tin mean? Bullet weight?

I know it is 7.62 Russian but have not measured bullet diameter yet. Read it's either .308 or a less common .310 or .311(forget which one).

I have about 350 rounds here and it is in pretty good shape with some staining on the brass on some rounds but no pitting. Seals around the primers and bullets is also in good shape telling me it is probably good to shoot.

I don't own anything to use this in so once i find out what it is , I will list it in the classifieds and try to turn it into 223 ammo or components.

Thanks,
Jeff

7.62 X 54R Russian rifle, looks to be Russian made from the box, could be Serbian, FMJBT 149gr. Can you show a headstamp?

Headstamp looks like 84 on one side and 09 on the other. Hard to get a good pic with a phone!

You have Russian made 7.62x54r. It is a 60 over 84. 60 is made by Lugansk/Frunze plant. The 84 is the year produced. The tin you have is from lot C10, powder tyoe BT produced in 1984 with bullet type LPS light ball steel core. Should be 147 gr. Good stuff.

the Mosin 91/30 were turned loose & imported a few yrs back , I bought a pair of em for $190.00 OTD

1 had the usual right handed cleaning wear in the muzzle , better trigger & machining `34 model

The other has better bore ,but .314" terrible trigger & machining `41 model probably made in war time by women.

I cast for mine & use the Lyman 314299 & run em `bout 1700fps with 2400 powder & there a hoot to shoot & recoil is non existant with these full sized battle rifles !

The pull is very short , think of heavy dressed soldiers.

the bad trigger teaches em what a bad trigger is & the other what a good trigger is ,then we get to the Remingtons !!!

They are fun to shoot and cheap to shoot (use to anyway). Sealed tins of 440 rds used to sell for around $75 to $90 before the madness. Should be able to get that on a open tin today (maybe a little more). Russian mfg. always brings a little more on the market.
