Spent this weekend on lake Erie doing some fishing with my brother and cousin. Brother purchased a boat last year and this was our first trip to the lake to troll for some walleye. We didn't catch a lot of them but they were big. Had four over 29" Saturday afternoon and lost several more big ones. We had a good time even though we got chased off the lake early today due to storms. Her are some from Saturday.

Those are nice walleyes. I can't believe you eat them that big. I like them about 16 inches. A nice thickness for breading and frying them. Those look kinda thick to me.

Nice fish ! With walleye at least, never noticed a falling off of taste with bigger fish. I think that may be an issue with bloodier or oilier types of fish. I think getting them on ice fast helps, as does trimming off gray meat, white membrane and cutting out the bloodlines, etc., all helps.

Looks like you had a nice day 32shooter. Those certainly are large.

Those fish are large enough to take the cheek pieces as well. Anyone here do that before? The best piece of meat, sort of like the back straps of a deer. My neighbor showed when I was a little kid.

Yes we do take the cheek meat off of them, and I also think it is better tasting than the fillets. Did you ever try them raw?? A coworker eats them raw when in Canada fishing. I have tried them while in Canada fishing and would just as soon have them fried. I would rather eat small ones also but that is what was biting.

I would try them raw if they were seconds out of the lake. Those in the picture look great. Smoked Walleye makes an awesome appetizer to go with your favorite beverage.

I did some up on the Treager grill last night for supper. They were good. I think they are better pan fried or deep fried, but not as good for you.

You are right. We grilled pollock Sunday. It was good. Not as good as the AYCE fried pollock we had at the Lil Bit Restaurant in Linesville Penn. on Saturday though. Don, that's a likely idea too. Ceviche. Walleye is mild enough.

Walleye is pretty firm and would be good to run through a ricer when making the ceviche. Some smoked chilies & cilantro, sweet Vidalia onion, lots of cumin and some really good quality chili powder sprinkled in, mmmmmmmmm, use a little Patron in the lime juice, gotta be good
