LOOKING FOR A RUGER BLACKHAWK IN .357 MAXIMUM. DON'T WANT A COLLECTOR'S PIECE. JUST WANT A GOOD BUILDER FOR A .500 LINEBAUGH MAXIMUM.

Don't forget to check the gap between the cylinder opening and the serial number to ensure room for opening up the frame to fit the larger cylinder. I took 3 Max's to Mr. Bowen and only one had sufficient gap to allow conversion.
Sold the other two - still have "The Candidate" hanging on my workbench wall, complete with Bisley parts and pieces.

When ya get one make sure you PM the serial number! and no, I don't have an extra one hanging around, I have a 7 1/2 and a 10 1/2 shooter, The other "few" I have are all NIB. Good luck in your quest, if I run into one I'll let ya know. PS, hopefully you'll find #600-11588, then I'll send you a 7 1/2 and a 10 1/2 for trade! :shock: :shock: Coogs.

Thanks to all of you and yes Coogs, it's yours if I find it I don't need anything in the $900 range. Just an old shooter, and would really prefer to avoid taking a nice one down. Ideally an old 7.5 barrel that's seen some use. One that's had the cylinder or other parts robbed is fine too. I'd prefer to at least have the internals, but all I really need is the cylinder frame. I'm also not worried about serial placement. Bowen is looking for at least .050" clearance, as it keeps you out of the number and makes for best appearance. All I need is for the number closest to the window to be a good .030" to .035" below the window. Most of the older Ruger Blackhawks including the Maxis are usually plenty good to meet those specs.

Thanks Tim. I didn't realize he had the note in the news section. Never even been to that page before now. It's luck of the draw with serial number placement, especially on newer ones, but I've been lucky on the older ones I guess. It's not been my experience with Bowen that he cares for anything much under .050" clearance, but I'm glad to know the note is there now for future reference.

I imagine you are correct that Bowen may not care for less than .050". The gun will look better with more space and, while his function is second to none, Hamilton's form is also top notch so appearances matter to him. They just look more "right" when the SN isn't smack up against the opening.
