Volquartsen extractor ?

My MKII is giving me trouble, stovepiping. I want to put a Volquartsen extractor in it, as this seems to be the hot set-up. Brownell's only lists one for a 10/22. I've seen other extractors that say they'll fit either 10/22s or the MK series of pistols. Do the extractors interchange?

I've seen the Volquartzen Extractor heal a 10/22 that would jam every other round & have been putting them in my MKIIs for years
On one you use the supplied spring & on the other you use the factory one, can't remember which..

Have you cleaned the chamber?? Is there damage to the feedramp? Is the ejector bent?? Just things to check..

I put one in my 10/22 even though I had no issues. For the price its like just doing maintenance. I've seen it fix FTE problems on a mk II and on a 10/22.

Not sure on the pistols but if I remember right I had to use the factory spring on my 10/22. There was a sticker on the bag that said something about the spring for the MKs but dont remember what it said.

Exact same problem with my MKII and installing the Volquartsen extractor solved it.
Now over 5000+ rds since and not a single extraction failure. In fact that was the only 'failure' that pistol has ever had. Ruger makes good guns!

Just installed one in each of my MK IIIs. One in 22/45RP and the MK III Target. Let see how they work next time at the range. No problems with the RP but the Target was giving me stovepipes all too often. Figured I was going to do one I might as well do both.

Put one in my 22/45 last year. Lots of rounds since. Never any more problems.

Betcha if Ruger would just do their job in the first place, VQ's extractor sales would plunge!

Seriously: I worked for a gunsmith when I got my 10/22 around '80/'81. Asked him about the VQ extractors. He kinda laughed, then told me what to do.

"Take out your factory extractor. Deburr all the edges. Check, clean and possibly deburr the hole in the bolt where the spring/plunger ass'y fits, and check the slot the extractor lives in for burrs. Deburr if necessary. Give things just the tiniest spot of oil and reassemble.

"That'll buy you enough time to save up your $11 to buy a VQ for a spare. The VQ extractor is just a Ruger extractor that's been finished!" (That's not 100% true, but close enough!)

As I said, that was in 1980 or '81. 20 yrs later when I bought a Mk II, I did the same drill, and both the rifle and pistol have worked for untold 1000s of rounds w/o any issue that couldn't be related to the cheap ammo I'm addicted to. Still have my $11, too, just in case!

The smiths in our shop referred to Rugers as "kit guns": "Buy one, bring it to us, and we'll finish it for you." Never heard a complaint on any we sent out after a good fluff and buff...
