Value question, Super Single Six

LGS has an old model Super Single Six w/ 4 5/8" barrel. LR cylinder only and no box, 95%. Manufactured in 1972. Interested in ideas of what it might be worth?

I paid $350 for a used one in the box with the extra cylinder This is a NM shipped in 1975 so it is a pre-warning. An OM should be about the same $$$ I would think.

Please, we need pictures of your gun. If it is a Super Single-Six that will letter from the Factory with a 4 5/8 in. bl. shipped in 1972, you have hit the jackpot. That is an extremely rare gun. :!: :!: :!:

You better look again! A 1972 Super-Single-Six with a 4 5/8 in. bl. is a very rare gun. So far I think there has been only one found. Prefix number 61-XXXXX.

That is exactly what I told him in my PM. All 200 serial numbers are in the books. Mostly 508xxx and 509xxx and the one 60-XXXX

Got excited and got it wrong! All the 508xxx and 509XXX were much earlier. Only the 60-xxxx would be 1972. Hope he is looking.

You'll never get a letter on the one that is in JD's book with the 60- prefix. Been there done that. I think it lettered as an SC6. There's another 60- gun out there too that has a 4-5/8" barrel and that one also letters as SC6.
The one that does letter however is serial number 61-08522. That one was Ed Nolan's.

THAT STAN TERHUNES' FAMILY SOLD OUT OF AMOSKEAG, ALONG WITH MANY OF HIS OTHER FIREARMS AND ACCESSORIES. THESE ARE VERY RARE........many muzzles reported to be roughly cut/finished with evidence of concentric milling circles. Additionally, one of the RCA Journals "headlined" this firearm.

Here is a list of the 4 5/8 in Super Single-Sixes that was printed in the Ruger Collectors Journal. At the time they didn't know about the Pre-fix gun.

It wouldn't matter. They still letter as SC-6...and since anybody can create that "hacksaw" look :roll:
I think there were some pics running around recently of one of the original SC4-s that even showed remnant of the screw threads on the end of the barrel....from the threaded front sight screw that went clear through to the bore, and the reason Ruger lopped the barrels off in the first place.
