USAF F-35 Crash in Alaska

Pilot ejected safely. Looks like a flame out in the video. Wheels were down, so he was low and slow, giving him about 2 seconds to get out.

Based on experience here in SC, those tend to straighten up and fly away just fine once the pilot has ejected...

Zero zero seats aren't new. But technology has improved in leaps and bounds. Old seats that I dealt with did have some safeguards. They would eject over certain speeds (if the speed indicator was working) and wouldn't eject downward below certain altitudes (again assuming the radar altimeter was still working).

These primitive, by today's standards, seats still saved a lot of lives. But they also cost a few lives if both aircrew and ground crew.
