The other night my wife and i was heading to my mom and dad's when we saw something in the road. As we passed by i slowed down and saw it was an owl, upright and conscious!!
I turned around and approached him. Stopping in the road just before him i turned my hazards on to run interference. I tried to shoo him off the road but he was apparently hurt and was standing his ground, so i backed off and called Dept of Wildlife. The lady said someone was on their way.

We got a photo or two and got back in the truck. After 10 minutes or so he mustered enough strength and flew away. So i called the dispatcher back and had her cancel the call.

What a beautiful specimen of God's creation!!

Beautiful. Nice to see one on the road that wasn't dead! I was driving home in the rain at night once. Both the car in front of me, and myself, ran over a red-phase Screech Owl standing in the middle of our lane.

I turned around, determined he was hurt or stunned, and threw my fleece jacket over him and carried him home. After a while in a box in the dark, he seemed to be doing better, and I let him go. Wonderful to hold him and watch the little guy fly off into the dark.

This is actually a fairly common occurrence if you spend a lot of time driving the back country at night. I thought something was wrong with the first couple I found just setting in the road too. I've never really given much thought to why they're there, but every now and then, there one will be, right smack in the middle of the road just sitting there :? I got out and caught a couple long ago. I just drive around them now.
