Uncle Mike's holsters

I've used these off and on for my "chore guns" w/o any real failures. That ended yesterday. Since all this "hoodlumism" began, I've been packing the little SR22 as insurance against bumping into a miscreant while I was working at home. I started with a brand new UM belt holster 2 weeks ago and found the belt attachment broken this morning. It was hanging by a thin strip of plastic but I guess having my jacket outside the holster had prevented a total failure and loss of the gun.
I've sent a request to return so we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, I found a BIANCHI that sort of fits and has an adjustable thumb break in my ever growing "wasn't quite what I wanted" holster box.

Yeah I have had a similar experience with their belt holsters. I quit using those. The little Uncle Mike pocket holsters are around $10 and seem to work well enough. I gave my SR22 away when I bought the LCP22. It carries perfectly in my pocket and is accurate enough to head shoot a rattler.

I've never found an off the shelf holster that I liked, Uncle Mikes or any others. So I spend the extra $$ for custom fitted leather.

Some folks would consider that an extravagance I suppose. I don't, and it's not because I'm wealthy - I'm not. But I'd rather have a good rig that fits me and the sidearm, than something I'm going to throw in the trash a month later.

I carried my oldest Single Six in an UM holster for going on 40 years. Worked fine. After all this time I started looking for a good leather holster for it. Was going through a box recently and found a few holsters. A few of them were for Single Six size guns. Had to have been 4 of them in the box at least. Better to be lucky than have a good memory I guess. :mrgreen:

I tried the UM (takes up only 3" of belt space) as a last resort. My needs are fairly specific and not met by anything I found OTC.
Specifically: muzzle covered or better yet closed to prevent getting foreign material in the bore, safety strap to assure the pistol isn't dislodged by activity/bumping/other contact with environment, and the most difficult to achieve--a small "footprint" on my belt. A very desirable option/addition would be a rear sight protector.
I'd been using a name brand holster that met the first 2 criteria and sort of protected the rear sight but the foot print took literally all of the available(and accessible) space on the right side of my belt. My 34" waist is "heavily populated" with phone case, flashlite pouch, multi-tool pouch on the left and vise grip pouch and holster on the right so a holster with a 6-8" footprint either puts the pistol in front pointing at my thigh or too far back for my buggered shoulder to allow a draw.
Keep in mind my typical work/daily activities: driving vehicles/farm equipment, climbing on/under same, ascending ladders, lying on various surfaces/conditions, and/or any other movements I may need to accomplish on any given day. All this may happen in whatever the weather may be. Far too many holsters are designed specifically for use while standing in clean environments.

I learned long ago these cheap holsters are no bargain. Get a well made, properly fitted holster. It is money well spent.

I have used UM a lot over the years, to the extent if I buy another gun, I probably already have a holster for it. Case in point, my ROA. I already had a NMBH, and several boosters both nylon and leather. Like BPJ, I forget to look through what I already have. UM hasn’t failed me.

Before I could legally carry concealed I wanted to try out a holster and the first one I bought was an Uncle Mike. But like most things in life, you get what you pay for. My outside the waist band holsters are mostly quality leather ones from Galco. But mostly I pocket carry and use the Desantis Nemesis for either my 642 or my LC9s. Its not worth stinting on the cost of a holster, but I see no need to spend a fortune either. In searching for the perfect holsters I have ended up, as I would guess many of us here have ended up, with a suitcase full of various holsters including some for guns that I no longer own. If my only choice was between carrying without a holster or an Uncle Mike's I would certainly choose to use an Uncle Mike's.

While I realize that good holsters are a worthwhile expense, there are times when blowing $50-100 on a holster simply isn't in the cards. I've used Hunter brand holsters for years when they cost $10. I liked a couple of Triple K holsters I used when I was packing a Sec 6 and GP100 but when I checked that brand, the prices were $90-120.

The co. is about 10 miles from my home. I once had a zipper fail on a shotgun case and took it to the company HQ. They handed me a new 1. I have had many uncle mike products over the years, they used to all have a life time warranty. I have not checked about that in a few years. They are not pro-grade, but work usually fine. Once this state opens back up, I would be glad to try the same with your holster if they do not respond to you.

My new TAGUA "4 in 1" holster came in yesterday. I have to say it's pretty good in weight of leather, fit, and stitching. I had to force the SR22 in hard last night to get the thumb break snapped but it's easier today. The belt clip for IWB was fairly easy to remove since it was both a clothing/seat gouge and totally unnecessary for my use. As it turns out, the patch that held the removed IWB clip also provides an extra layer of protective leather right where the holster will rub on tractor seats.

I have several uncle mikes , never an issue. I have holsters from a company called "bulldog " and hunter , no issues with any . I am wondering if the guns are not being matched to the correct holster ??

In this particular case, yes it is the correct gun/holster fitment-- I ordered the holster after buying the pistol.
Some of the UM holsters have plastic panels instead of belt loops. Mine failed when that plastic belt attachment panel broke at 3 of 4 corners. If I don't get any warranty help, I'll clip the rest of the broken plastic off and attach the main part of the holster inside the console of my work pickup to hold my gun when I enter "NGA" (no guns allowed) buildings.

I've got good use out of Uncle Mike's holsters over the years. When they started with the plastic belt loop they got pretty bad though. I still have some older style one's going strong!

I like pancake holsters and have 3 or 4 of them for various revolvers. Usually they are cheaper, lighter, are tighter to the body and ride higher. Whats not to like? You dont need a extra large heavy gun belt either.
