My uncle and I hit the local gun show last weekend. Luckily, he did not have a pistol permit so all he could do was look and gather info. I don't know what his top line spending amount is, but he tends to look bargain no matter what. He was taking serious note on the pot metal Heritage single actions. He seems to be partial to a nickel finish as he liked the german made EAA? (not sure exactly what brand that was). Anyhow, I've been working on him to go with a Ruger. The cost is about twice as much or more for a new gun, but for the quality vs. cost .. he needs to go with the Ruger. He would never spend Colt money but he's a little sticker shock right now over Ruger prices even. I've been pushing for looking for a like new but used stainless single six . I think he would go for a blued ruger if the price is right. Any suggestions on how to push him a little in the right direction on his purchase and how much can he expect to spend on a excellent conditioned single six.. blued or stainless?

I'm happy with the new Single 10....stainless, 22LR, fiber optic factory sights that make geezer vision easier (don't ask how I know this), and very pleasant little package. Has a bit of a 'shaped contour' in the old plow-grip handle.

Its an improvement IMHO over the Single 6. At least get him to handle one, you might have to search no further.

They are new enough on the market I doubt you'll find a 'used one'. Several vendors have them in the RF Classified.....going for close to $500 new.

Will outlast the grand kids probably, like all Rugers.

It's 5.5".....don't know if there's choices yet.

Good balance, nice single action feel. I've got about 700 rounds thru mine now and the action is smoothing out a bit.

The best deal in 22lr is the Ruger Mark III semi auto pistol. It's a helluva gun and you can get it new for a little over $300.

If he is dead set on a revolver, this shows he has good taste :) the Single Six is a great gun. I bought one used, it's a tack driver and a joy to shoot. I imagine the 10 is every bit as nice if not better.

I had been shopping for a 2nd hand SS for some time. They seem to go for $350 - $450 if they have the WMR cylinder - $50 - $75 less if just the lr cylinder.

When you consider the price, factor in Ruger's cust. service. The one I bought had *serious* problems and sprayed bullets all over the place. I sent it off to Ruger and they replaced both cylinders, the trigger and the hammer for FREE! And it came back in 3 days! The gun is now a tack driver! IMO that adds a lot of value to any Ruger gun.

Have him handle the Ruger and the Heritage together and see how he likes the safety on the Heritage I don't like it at all

I hqve a heritage R.R. convertible, it was my first pistol when i was just out of high school. The safety is odd but i just dont use it. I do like the half cocking of the hammer compared to the New Model Rugers.... But ive had maybe 2000 rounds, maybe... And the hammer will lock up from time to time now... I dont shoot it often anymore but its a fun little gun to shoot and extremely accurate for me but not reliable like it once was.

With that said i shoot my 22/45 more than any other pistol i own now. I am kind of looking for a bearcat to replace the role of the Heritage now.
