Looks like the M77 Ultralight is gone from the Ruger line-up?

If you are looking for a 20" barrel 308 you can get close to what the UL was with the Compact Magnum. No black fore-tip or polished blue, but it comes with sights, under 7 lbs. Glad I got my 257 Roberts UL when I did.

I have one of the first MK-II Ultralight rifles in .223 they made.
It took me years, because of it's thin barrel, to get the un to
group less than 3 1/2 inches.

I have one of the last years of production Mk-II Ultralites in 204 Ruger once I free floated the barrel it settled down and started grouping 0.5-0.6 inches for 5 shots at 100 yrds, I finally stopped trying to shrink the groups any further and started hunting varmints with it. Nice and light but the short barrel gives up almost 200 FPS over the other 204 ruger I have that has a 26 inch barrel.

Good point Sam.

If a 16.5 in barrel is acceptable, you can go to the "compact" Hawkeye and be out the door under six pounds.

Even the standard model and the all weather model are at the seven pound limit.
