There is before the Governor of Tennessee now a bill called Truth in Sentencing. The purpose of the bill is to make convicted felons serve the time imposed by the courts. Not sure if it imposes 100% of the sentence, but al least the majority of it. Case in point: A woman was convicted of murder in the death of her husband. (This a celebrated case involving the death of basketball star Lorenzen Wright) The wife was convicted and sentenced to thirty (30) years in prison. As of now she is before a parole board with some expectancy of getting out of prison. She has served three years of her sentence. She has been credited with time served prior to trial, good behavior, earned points toward early release, and her overall appearance.
