I have an opportunity to go to the North Dakota riding in the back country. I would fly into Minnesota and get picked up and drive to North Dakota. Does anyone know the website about the laws regarding traveling to different states? I would not be carrying until in the back country, but just want to make sure that I am legal every step of the way.

As long as you follow the airline regulations and interstate transport laws you will be fine. Minnesota and North Dakota are very gun friendly and have no goofy laws. Have traveled through both states several times always with guns. Gun in a locked case ammo separate and you will be fine while travelling anywhere. As for carrying in North Dakota open carry is not specifically legal. If your hunting or target shooting or have a concealed carry permit your legal to open carry. The odds of anyone saying anything are slim to none in the back country. But for fifteen bucks you can buy a nongame license and two bucks gets additional you a furbearer license. So you can be hunting rabbits and coyotes as you open carry. All this assumes that by riding your talking horseback. In or on a vehicle all guns must be unloaded and in plain view unless you possess a concealed carry permit then handguns can be loaded and concealed or unconcealed longguns must be unloaded no matter what.

Yes, I am talking about horseback. I have the Utah CCW permit which is good for 37 states (North Dakota and Minnesota are included) as well as a permit for my home state. I like your idea about getting the hunting license as well, that is a great idea.

With the permit you have nothing to worry about you could even transport loaded and concealed. Just the usual common sense things if you choose to carry concealed in populated areas research what local regulations might be concerning how and where you can or cannot carry.. I have not been out there since I got my permit so I have not researched what I have to do to be legal while carrying concealed. One tip with hunting licenses is to buy online before you go. Not very easy to find a place to buy outside of the bigger cities.

ndruger,

Thanks for the welcome.

Unfortunately I will not be bringing my two horses as I own two Nokotas, but looking forward to riding your state on my friends horse(or possibly on a mule for the first time). It was short notice, but if I can bring it all together I am certainly going to try.

Wow...I'm jealous. I'd love to do some riding in ND. Real country up there.
