I consider myself somewhat of a handgunner, and dating that field of endeavor back to September 1954. During that span of time I have shot every handgun I could get my hands on just for the experience. And over these years, the Single Action revolver has become my favorite, and that of course the Ruger Super Blackhawk, and the fine .44 Magnum cartridge.

This Super Blackhawk I bought back in 1971 and was my gun of choice for a long time. The brass grip frame is from Ruger, though I paid the $20 to purchase it after market. Best shot I ever made was taking a groundhog at a measured 110 yards.

I later acquired this New Model Super Blackhawk, did some things to it, and it became my favorite. With my handload it just endeared itself to me like a stray puppy. It just seemed to shoot where I looked, and being handsome was no demerit, either:

Then, a few years ago, another Three Screw came along. Looking somewhat like a waif, I took it in, nurtured it and threw some money into it, and this one has earned an honorable place in my battery.

So, now which is my favorite? Sort of like asking which of your children is your favorite.

Three winners if you ask me, sweet !

I have a NW-SBH 44 mag same configuration. There is something about these guns that makes them shoot so well. I love mine.

They are all very nice. I noticed they all sport standard Blackhawk hammers as opposed to the SBH style. Is that a preference? Also, the handwriting on the ammo box would make me think that you have an Engineering/Design/Drafting background?

Yes, and yes.

The way I cock my Single Actions I sort of wipe my thumb off the hammer spur sideways when cocking with the gunhand, and the standard Blackhawk works for me better.

And yes I worked in the engineering field for over thirty years as a design draftsman. But my lettering deteriorated when we went to AutoCad!

Mine deteriorated a bit too with autocad, but Word and autocorrect really killed my spelling ability.
Any tricks to keep the middle finger from getting banged up from full house loads other than a glove. I got a pachmayr grip that fills behind the squared off trigger guard, but can't stand the look of it. So the stock wood grip or possibly something nicer is what will stay.
Very nice collection.

I keep a box of Bandaids in my shooting box just for when I shoot my BH .44 mag. Supers. I can shoot heavy loads in the RedHawk without pain but any of my BH Supers, even the round trigger guard ones, eat at my middle finger knuckle. The 3 3/4" Bisley Super does not bight me but the plow handles ones will .

Bob...I think you should give equal time to each, what a handsome set of triplets you have there.
