This year's venison...

I didn't hunt as much this year as I usually do, just seemed to be i either had stuff going on or the weather was awful a lot of the time. I did manage to take these two bucks, no big racks but both represent enjoyable days in the woods. We still have a week or so of hunting season left so there might still be a freezer doe out there... we'll see. I didn't have a chance to take one with a sixgun this year, so far, anyway.
This first one i shot with my Remington 660 6.5 Remington Magnum with a handloaded 160 Sierra roundnose loaded to about 2400 fps. Those long, heavy-for-caliber bullets at modest velocity are so very deadly and reliable, in my experience. He never took a step; dropped in his tracks and slid about 20' downhill.

The second one fell to my old Belgium Browning BLR .308. Again, long heavy bullet at modest velocity, in this case 180 grain Sierra roundnose at 2400 fps, and again, dropped in his tracks.

Never apologize for anything when it comes to putting meat in the freezer. You got a couple of great deer, and should be proud of that.

I hunted a lot this year,,, but passed on many deer because I don't kill just to be killing or bragging. My freezer is full and THAT'S what it should be about.

I never fired a shot this year , opening morning seen one smaller Buck and had one Doe come thru but both off limits to what the land owner wants taken on the opening weekend and the rest of the season pretty much went down hill from there

on a side note wearing those color during deer season here in WI would get you a ticket if the warden seen you and might even get you shot by some meathead hunter

Hawk, yeah we're required to wear the orange too - and I did. This was was a "posed" picture well after the hunt.

Ty, yes, a full freezer is my goal too! With both of these being late season bucks, they went mostly to breakfast and summer sausage and venison burger meat. Backstraps sliced and packaged. I'd still take a doe for some roasts if I got a chance, but the fat lady is humming...

Hunter orange is required by most states for public land hunting. But some states allow hunting on your own property without orange being required.

The BLR line up is by far one of my favorites. I just wish they offered threaded barrels, the recoil from some of those cartridges is brutal. I cranked off a 300wsm from mine and thought I had been struck by lightning

Here in Georgia, you can harvest whatever wanders or is baited onto your property...my neighbor harvest 4-5 nice bucks each season..10 yds from his back door with a crossbow... usually drops them in their tracks...and even w/o a license, little attention is paid by the authorities because we R overrun with Deer and wasting disease has already been recorded in southern Georgia...scores of dead Deer litter out highways all year...we have Lots of nice Venison here.

here in WI it doesn't matter , private or public land you have to have blaze orange or blaze pink , upper body and ( if wore head gear/hats ) have to be 50% or more

You are correct about being over ran with deer but if the game warden wanted to he can definitely write you a ticket for not having a license as well as not wearing orange while hunting even in your yard since those are the rules here in Georgia. One case was recorded in lanier county of cwd the next county over from me.

He shoots them from inside his home...I agree license is needed but I doubt the game warden requires him to wear his vest in his living room
