I had been a regular listener to Rush for the last almost 20 years, and I will miss his wisdom, humor and charm forever. But lately I have found that I am not listening to the Rush Limbaugh show. Some of the hosts are OK, and the first week or so after his passing they pretty much focused primarily on replaying segments from Rush over the years, and that was fine. And so it may sound disloyal, but I think the mantel must be passed, and not to a endlessly changing number of commentators. For good or bad, the EIB Network needs to pick a new permanent host (and I hope it is Mark Steyn) and can either rename the show or keep it as the Rush Limbaugh Show, but it needs to move on. I have found that some of these guest hosts just bore me, and I change the station on the radio, which is something I never did while Rush had the show.
This may sound disloyal to Rush's memory, but....

If he were still with us, I'd nominate Tony Snow. As I've mentioned before, a little bit of Rush went a long way in my book, but I never tired of Mr. Snow. Is there anyone in the list of guest hosts who comes close to him?

I will take it one step further.
the wife and I stopped listening to any of it ever since we did our part to support their cause and took their advice....and they got broadsided by the dems anyway.
makes one wonder just how smart any of them really are to get doofed like they did.

its not a matter of anticipation. its the abilty to gather intelligence and deduce whats being set up. the office with all its knowledge, power, computer programs designed to draw scenerios, and ability to collect intelligence world wide... missed the dems legal maneuvering at state levels?

Once they get thru this mourning period I suspect we will see what I would call "probationary hosts". They will appear on the condition that they keep the Rush Babies satisfied. If not, that one is out and the next one will appear.....until they find the correct mix. We have a local host that would (and has as a fill-in for Rush many times) do a great job. But when quizzed about the possibility....he said he would decline the offer should it come his way. His reasoning is something I had not considered. He says, he would not ask his family to go thru the absolute Hell that will come towards whoever takes that job. Some years back, when Bill Bennet retired, this man was offered that program. He declined that one because, given the early hours of the broadcast, it would have taken him away from his young family too much.
That program became the Hugh Hewitt Show.

Agree with you completely on both counts. Mark's not right for the noontime slot. Besides which, he's already says he doesn't want it, he wants to stay where he is and "bat clean-up" on the day.bogus bill said:

I will agree with the OP.
Mark Steyn is the best current alternative. He is intelligent, well spoken and has a sense of humor, which is important.
Rush used humor constantly to illustrate the absurdity of the Left's positions and Mark Steyn has the same ability.

I have to admit that I think the producers and guest hosts are doing a pretty good job making the transition from Rush to No Rush. They're finding clips from Rush that are relevant to today's news (or are timeless) and so keeping the legacy alive. Dunno how long they'll keep doing this; I imagine that sooner or later they'll go to a new host full-time.

This is a difficult time for all who followed Rush. Give it time. But know that we will need a new voice for Conservatives and it won't be Rush. There was only one Rush and we were blessed to have him as long as we did. Give it time.

As wildly popular as Rush's show was before his passing, I suspect listenership could drop dramatically before the advertisers drop out completely and the show becomes unprofitable for radio stations to carry. It isn't like the show has stiff competition during this time slot something more popular or profitable is waiting in the wings.
As a long time listener, my appreciation for Rush has increased since his passing. I never really understood how much better he was at this game than anybody. I knew I liked him more, but the depth of his genius and how far above any replacement he was. What really sunk in to me is what role Rush being a nonconformist played in his success. The deviation from normal thinking that got him fired 7 times (or whatever) is also what made him look at things from a different angle than everyone else.

I listen to Mark also but it annoys me when he starts yelling rants. I cancelled my membership to a church once when the new preacher started his yelling rants. I hate to be yelled at, it reminds me of Army Basic Training.bogus bill said:
