Thinking of a new Cowboy Revolver in .45 Colt 5.5"

Have been looking at Uberti 1873 and also New Vaquero.
How are the New Vaquero's as far as the barrel being choked at the frame.
And are the chambers still undersized. I don't mind to much having to open up the chambers
if need be, but the barrel being choked is not something I want to deal with.

Cast bullets or jacketed?
Previous experience with either model?

I personally prefer a Ruger by far over a Uberti. American made. Better built, (in my opinion,) resale value better, & overall a better value TO ME.

Chambers,,, may or may not come in undersized. If undersized,,, it's an easy thing to correct. Cast responds better to proper sized chambers,,, where jacketed may be more forgiving.

Barrel choke,,, or thread choke,, can happen with either brand. I do not feel it is an issue,,, and if it I get a gun with a slight thread choke,,, again,, it's an easily fixed issue. But,, with the numbers built by Ruger,,,, percentage wise,, very few ACTUALLY have a thread choke that affects accuracy. Some thread choke has contributed to leading when using cast. Firelapping isn't a hard thing,,, IF,,, IF,, a thread choke is an issue.

If I'm shooting a .45, I like the large frame vaquero. It fits my hands better. If I'm stuck with a new vaquero. I'll take the Uberti and 44-40 instead of .45.

A little off topic but related to your thread choke fear. I have also seen Rugers that will lead where barrel warnings are crushed into the barrel.
Like contender said ,firelapping is easy.
I shoot almost all cast and as such I will measure and ream a chamber mouth when needed . But I firelap EVERY new (or new to me ) single action I get. Don't even slug them any more , I just do it.
Most shoot better, some shoot the same, none shoot worse. But bore cleaning is ALWAYS easier and leading is never an issue.

I have Rugers and Uberti revolvers both a great revolvers IF in the case of Ruger they built right the first time. The Rugers are built stronger and the Uberti a good build on the Colt type design.

I have had three Rugers previously that had barrel choke, two SBH .44's
And one Old model SS Vaquero .45 Colt.
Fire lapped them but they never did shoot cast well, maybe because they had undersized chambers as well ?
My new to me BH .45 Colt has no barrel choke but chambers are undersized.

I mostly own Ruger revolvers , and have had a bad opinion of the Italian replica guns since owning some in the late 80's &early 90's that were junk. But the Uberti company anyways seems to have gotten their game together big time. I bought a couple Uberti Patron .45's this year and they are spot-on throughout with all their dimensions, very nice guns . Both guns shoot excellent, they shoot and are built better than the two Colts I owned by a long shot and cost a fraction of what they did. I would not hesitate to buy another .
