Life teaches you lots of things along the way .
One of the most amazing life lesions I've learned is simply this, No matter what you do , how you do it even if you do it the way she told you to and you have written instruction for God him self whatever you did you did it wrong 35 years of always being wrong and getting a lecture about it no matter what is getting real old .
Rant over.

Just to quote from Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harrry, " A man has to know his limitations ".
In regards to " Things life teaches you rant", "A man has to know his limits".
When I realized that I was keeping my mouth shut out fear of starting another argument, I knew I had reached my limit.

Gramps,
Never said I don't love her, that will never change, but the constant arguments one about the dogs, two about money are wearing VERY THIN.
Sometimes it gets to the point that if I had my own car/tuuck and got enough money from my disability to support myself I sware I'd find my oun place and her and her sister could just have the house.
It's an EVERYDAY battle and I'm over it . Maybe I am the a$$hole she tells me I am might be the best thing for all involved.

Fact is Lou, right and wrong is a matter of perspective! Women see things differently than men do.
So if you are right in her eyes you may be wrong, Make sense?
For example Linda buys things mostly junk in my view, after a while she gets tired of it and throws stuff out.
She ask me if I want to get rid of something I say no way. If I spend my hard earned money I'll keep it.
I explain that to her, then simply tell her to throw her money directly in the trash to save time and effort.
Most just trinkets around the house but that drives me crazy.ps

Lou: Live with it. I don't agree with everything that Judy spouts. Never really. I deal with it and so can you. Seems she has stuck with you through thick and thin. You should do the same JMO friend. I don't know everything. I would give it a damn good try. I am in a business that makes lite of this kind of thing. Aviation Induced Divorce. AID. It is really not a joke.

Lou, could it be that she has a certain routine that your retirement has interrupted? Not to mention you are already under stress from your change in lifestyle? I know when Dave got out of the army as much as I loved having him home all of a sudden all the things I was used to getting done my way were getting done his way. Add to it, he was used to being in command and I was used to being the queen of my house. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not siding with either of you... But you at least know how she is going to react to certain things if you have been paying the slightest bit of attention in 35 years. Perhaps you could put that knowledge to use in sitting down and talking about the adjustments that need to be made.

It's a sad fact of life that even though you have a good man beside you doesn't mean there isn't times when he gets on your last good nerve. Especially when your roles are suddenly changed and there is a period of adjustment. The more dedicated a guy was to his job the harder the retirement adjustment is. I would try to give advice but quite frankly I don't know enough about your story to do so. May I be so bold as to suggest you and her schedule an hour or two with your priest or minister? If nothing else you will have a sympathetic ear and back you up in the areas she is being unfair... and vice versa.

I got fed up with that years ago. When my wife would start to complain about how things were being done I just stop and put things away. It took a bit of time, but she finally figured it out. Now she at least keeps quite til I'm done.

You married folks have my respect. I have never been good at anything close to that type of relationship.

I've been married 25 years to my current wife, and one thing i learned is ,I am almost always right.
I just keep my opinions to myself

Lou, you ole curly headed devil, if you are looking for perfection its not going to happen and you know it too. All us God’s little children think we are the greatest things that ever happened on this earth. Admit it, you feel that way, I feel that way, my cousin in Chicago that plays the violin feels that way. That’s perfectly normal. That’s something we all need to face the world every day.

The problem that most of us have is trying to find a way to get these two Egos to live together. Over the years we gradually slip into a routine that deteriorates the arrangement. Its easy to do, but its hard to cure.

Ease up a little. Maybe you could ignore some of the stupid things she does.
A little love and affection wouldn’t hurt. You’re still a man. Have you forgotten how to treat a woman? You know they live in a different world.

Lets face it Pal, You’re not perfect, I’m not perfect, nobody is perfect. Once you realize that maybe we can all get along better.

I’ve got a good friend that has been married six times. At the last wedding the Preacher ask him if he would take this woman to be his lawfully wedded wife. You know what he said? “Why Not.”

CURIOUS HERE: How does her sister get involved in 'the house' deal you mentioned, as you noted? Does her sister get you wound up, or, does her sister get her wound up, with the waterfall effect on you in the end. ( ?) BTW, it has been 52 yrs here the end of April. I have chosen, for the most part, to learn not to shut up. I do not leave the house much in time of turmoil, either. It gets real loud sometimes..............LOLOL

50 years for me Lou and am 9 years her senior with me being 80. It seems since I turned 80 I don't know S**t about anything so I still do it my way & she will have to live with it. I am about deaf even with hearing aides and have cataracts that need to be operated on but no money so life just goes on day to day.

One thing tho, I am really happy when I wake up in my own bed in my own bedroom every morning.

Keep your chin up and when it gets bad, load up the bike and take off for a few days.

Dave

Well here's the deal, when we first got married her brother started having problems and he moved in with us for a while. He got him self straight and moved out.
Then her moms house caught fire so her and her sister lived with us for over a year while three house was being repaired.
Fast forward a couple years and her mom had some problems and lived with us for 7 years or so.
She got her self straight and moved back to her house .
Then her sister was being abused by her husband and I figured rather than killing that fat bastard the best thing was to let her live with us, that was back in 2008 .
So most of the time we've been married one of her family members have been living with us ,it was the right thing to do but its been a strain on our relationship.
Now it just seams I can't do anything right and I'm at the point that I don't give a rats ass if she likes it or not but I don't need to hear about it all the time.
Maybe I'm just cranky in my old age .
BTW Slenia I've been officially retired since 2001 so me being around the house all the time is nothing new.
My time with the Sheriff's office was on a volunteer basis, some weeks I'd work 80 hours others as few as 20 as were the needs of the job .
Like I said I guess I'm just blowing off steam .
I know after being sick since last fall I've got cabin fever bad but still ain't ready or back on my feet enough to really get out of the house for any real time .
Add to that I'm selling my bike ,don't ride it anymore and don't even have a car of my own I can't just go whenever I wish.
When this bike sells and I buy a older Enduro I'll be doing a lot of trail riding and that will help + I'll have some money to stock up on reloading components so I'll be able to get out and shoot a little that always makes me feel like the old me .
I'll tough it out till then but its just a tough time for me right now .
Sorry for the rant, but really needed to vent a bit, thanks of all for putting up with my whining.
Lou

Having all those folks living with you for so long must have been tough. I haven't lived in a (full) family situation since the 60s so I can't relate much to what you've experienced. You seem like a good guy and believe in God too. I hope it works out well for you and her.
