They got more boats

The US has 11 aircraft carriers with 3 more under construction and 2 on order. China has 3 with one under construction.

They are those great big grey things that are pointed on one end and blunt on the other end. Naval Aviators use them to take off and land on.
Some of the real big ones look like this. :) :) :)

My first thought was they got a hell of a lot more people than us and so should have more boats....

As a side note.... I read in a book (I think as I got in a karma here) that the week after D-Day there was a storm off the coast of France and we and our allies lost more boats in that storm than in the rest of the war total.

The primary difference between a boat and a ship is size. Generally, a ship is larger and designed for deep-water navigation, while a boat is smaller and often used in shallower waters. Here are some key distinctions:

  • Size: Ships are typically over 500 tons and can carry larger cargo or passengers, whereas boats are usually smaller, ranging from a few feet to about 30 feet.
  • Capacity: Ships can accommodate more passengers and cargo compared to boats, which are often used for recreational purposes or fishing.
  • Design and Construction: Ships have more complex designs and construction due to their size and operational requirements, leading to higher operating costs compared to boats.
  • Functionality: Ships are built for long voyages and can operate in open seas, while boats are often used for shorter trips and in coastal or inland waters.

China is making the same mistake as The Soviet Union. Quantity over quality.
At one time the Soviet Union had more tanks than the USA and NATO combined, but how many were actually serviceable? The Russians were never known for "quality of workmanship"

Boats go under water and looks at ships as targgets! Did two Med and a North Atlantic cruise on the SSBN609B, SAM HOUSTON.

My father in law was a sailor in WWII. He told me that a BOAT is what you launch off the deck of a SHIP.

Yes, China has a larger navy by just counting ships. Yes, we have ships that are more complicated and expensive.
We still have superiority, but we need to keep our navy strong and insure that we are not wasting billions of dollars on loser projects like the littoral combat ships turned out to be.

My father joined the Navy right out of high school in '47 and was stationed at some fire control center on a Cruiser. He took his first cruise over to the Mediterranean ... when he got. back to Norfolk he went to the Captain and informed him he did not want to be in the Navy anymore........ which of course is ridiculous... then he told the Captain he wanted to be a Marine. The captain after a few words reached in his desk and pulled out some papers and filled them out and my father was headed to Paris Island. I never got the chance to ask him if when he and his fellow marines were surrounded by those hundred thousand Chinese and it was 30 below did he think that Navy job would have been not so bad?
