The Oscars and Equal Opportunity

First, I don't care about the Oscars. Actors mostly are about on par with lawyers, news reporters, building contractors, and car dealers. And in fairness to lawyers, contractors and car dealers, I'm prejudiced. There might be some decent folks in that group. I just haven't met any.

I'm only thrown into this because I had to listen to this crap on the news today.

Not enough minorities were chosen as Oscar recipients this year.

So next year, I'll bet there will be a whole bunch of minority Oscar winners. Affirmative Action. Mark my words.

Almost.... "affirmative action" has been replaced with "diversity".

In other words, the dream of Martin Luther King is dead - "..... when a man is judged on the content of his character rather than the color of his skin..." (or something like that)

You can say that again. Can you imagine being the winner of an Oscar, knowing you only won because you were a certain color, and not because of your ability to act? How embarrassing for the winner. But I guess if those people voting feel good.

If black actors didn't focus on making "relevant" films, perhaps they would get some really good roles and win a few Oscars. "Blacula" and "The Whiz" appeal to a limited audience, hence limited votes.

I'm with Wayno, I don't care about the Academy or the Oscars. I don't care that there is not diversity in the awards (or nominations) I didn't even know there was an award for talking $#*T, or Swearing, so I'm not surprised there are no diversity awards. What would surprise me is if anyone notices I didn't make it. But I don't care about that either.

I just looked at the roster for the Boston Celtics. Of the 15 players only five are white. Is anybody upset about that ?

When they pull things like this it only serves to keep prejudism alive. Same thing with the Black lives matter signs. They are upset about police brutality, but have to make it a race issue.

First off I haven't watched TV in close to move years now. Just play movies that interest me. I also haven't watched any of the awards shows or even Miss America in way too many years. Why? I dated two beauty queens and all I will say is they were way too impressed with themselves to suit me.
With that said, Maybe the reason no blacks were nominated for an award is the fact no blacks played a part to a point worthy of a nomination. I like Will Smith, at least in the movies I've seen him in but none of them were every worthy of a nomination or an award. Just my opinion and I've watched one hell of a lot of movies. One of my favorite pastimes.
