The Marlin Camp 9

You know, earlier I think was yesterday or maybe the day before, I casually asked about why didn't Marlin make the buffer out of a good rubber that could take shock/cushion probably better that the plastic/nylon material. There was no reply. I still wonder why a good rubber material was not used. Maybe they thought the rubber would crack too ?

Since their introduction, I've owned 4 Camp 9s; one a 9N version. A couple were purchased new, a couple used. I don't pretend know why Marlin chose the buffer material they did. I can say that the buffers in my used Camp 9s appeared to be near new, but disintegrated as I removed them to install new buffers. I have seen the reports of Camp 45 stocks cracking. Can't say I'm really surprised. The Camp 45s used the same light 14 oz. bolt and 11# recoil spring of the Camp 9s. Regular old .45 230 grain ball has a significantly greater recoil impulse than the hottest 9mm I've ever tested. I routinely used the 21# Wolff recoil spring in my Camp 9s. Even with the heavy 21# spring, my Camp 9s ejected the lightest 9mm ammo reliably.

If I had a NIB camp 9, can't honestly say if I'd shoot it or not. I'd sure be tempted though.

About handing a firearm down; we've all seen the posts by individuals who inherited this or that firearm. Some of those firearms might be very desirable to many shooters and/or collectors. They want to know what it is, and How Much It Is Worth before they head down to the LGS or pawn shop to sell it. One man's treasure, is another man's, etc..

So the buffers looked like new on the used ones you bought, but disintegrated while trying to remove them. That's interesting. How about the ones that you bought new. Have you had any problems with those buffers ? Just wondering.

On my phone I don't see any page numbers. The only thing on the bottom left is Attach files and below that is insert quotes....I use my cell phone doing this and not a computer, so I am limited to what I see and can do. I think that is the situation here. Again there are no page numbers, nothing. I will just have to do what I can do. On my phone it was hard enough to just learn how to edit. Thanks.

Oh, those page numbers, yes, I can see those. It was this multiple post thing they were talking about that I don't see.....I could always see These page numbers. On my screen they are smack dab in the bottom middle......Those I could see "Ride". I was just hoping you would reply so I could see your "Western Theme" avatar. Thank you for being so helpful !! If I want to reply to someone, I hit reply, and the previous post just pops up and then I start typing away . That is what I've always done. Thanks to you too Hittman !! . Are you doing this on a phone or your computer? When I select quote, there is nothing there. Again this is done on my phone. Thanks for helping, but it's not working out, not on my phone anyway. I do appreciate it, but it is what it is.

My thinking was "Well I will give it to my son or my grandsons for that matter. Or to maybe sell it, or maybe not, as that was never really on my mind to do that....or just shoot it. I mean my son's gonna get what I have anyway down the road.... The reason was maybe to keep it new if it would have gained any value as "new in the box" ??

Maybe ask your son what he thinks? I’d definitely shoot it.

Hi Eveled, that is a good point. The problem is he lives in Georgia and I am in CA. He IS coming home with his wife and my 3 little grandsons. One is 3. One is about 20 months or so and a brand new one which is less than 2 months old !! Looking forward to seeing all of them. I'm sure we will discuss things.
