I talked to my daughters this morning, the Friday morning conference call. One is in Texas, the other in Ohio. During the call, I mentioned making my cowboy beans for a recent church function.

Daughter in Ohio: "Yum! I can't decide which is better coming to Memphis, a barbecue or your beans!"

That is about the highest compliment I ever had!

Anytime someone says they like your food its a nice compliment. But that is indeed a high compliment.

Every time my son comes home from college he asks me to make my beans. He doesn’t ask his Mom to make anything! Lol

She wants you make those beans! Can I come over also?

They've got pills for that. I'd starve if it wasn't for my acid reflux meds. But I have them & looking forward to cooler weather, if for no other reason than that's when we start cooking soup beans, chile, & such.

OK Bob, you just can't dangle the bait like that. Roughly, how do you make your bean dish.

So true. My pump allows me to eat most anything I want. Youi do need to know how to count/estimate carbs.
There's a new pump out that's supposed to do away with carb counting. Can't remember the brand.

But the CGM is about the best thing to happen to diabetics since insulin.

Yes, that is a very high compliment considering my love for Memphis BBQ.

I'll tell you, though..... I dearly love well cooked and seasoned beans. I can take a good bowl of beans, with a little ham in them, some onions and hot cornbread and be perfectly in bliss..................

My wifes' birthday was Wednesday. We're going to my parents house today. My mother asked the wife if she wanted anything. She responded "strudel!" My dad at 91 still makes an awesome strudel. He was an Army cook/baker during the Korean war and spent time in Germany as well. He learned many recipes from a german hausfrau whose family 'adopted' him during his time there.

In the mid 70’s Ramstein AFB had a Red Horse outfit that conducted training on aircraft arresting barrier systems. I spent a couple of TDY’s there.
The idea was that if the barriers needed to be reset or reconfigured on short notice the fire department would do it. Only needed to operate the systems a couple of times but I’m sure the pilots appreciated us.

Back to food. The staff at the Red Horse chow hall were all German civilians. They produced absolutely the best meals I ever had in a mess hall. And they had beer on tap.
