Crossing the creek bridge on our way to the north farm this morning GA pointed out a couple of deer enjoying the cool morning on a sandbar 150 yards upstream from the county road bridge. I see deer there frequently so didn't pay a lot of attention other than to notice that one of the deer resembled a buck we've seen numerous times in that area. On the way home 2 hours later, I stopped to look at a bigger group of deer standing/lying on the sandbar. Bino's out for a better look revealed a total of 8 bucks standing/lying in the shade on the sandbar. Not a lot of growth but enough to see that all were bucks from 150 yards.
Oddly, this 'hangout' is right next to a farm owned by a fellow from Des Moines who claims there aren't many deer in the area and they hardly ever see a deer during season.o_O

You know the saying, “Without pics….”😉😁

Well, the big flood a few days back caused a large maple tree to collapse into the creek bed covering the sandbar that the deer had been using. Darn it.
The deer seem to have chosen another sand bar on the downstream side and a bit closer to the bridge. Yesterday's beach goers included a couple of does who maybe lost their fawns to the flood and a large bodied buck with main beams already out past his ears. It sort of looks like his G2's are growing off the back of his mains rather than up. This could get interesting if he continues to show up at the beach. ;)
