What is the general consensus on the future of this cartridge? Is it likely to succeed? I like the new configuration of the Alaskan 77 with laminated stock and 23 inch barrel. If they offer this version in .416 Ruger, I'd be interested.

Greetings,

I have a Ruger #1 in 416 RCM, and I like the cartridge. The weight of the tropical rifle helps with the recoil. I bought a 350 grain bullet mold, and that beats buying the high dollar jacketed bullets. A 350 grain lead bullet at 2100 fps is not a max load, but you can tell it has the power to take down about anything in north America. My old RCBS Rock Chucker likes the short cartridge as well. The standard length action is considerably less expensive to buy compared to the long magnum action. Whats not to like with all those good things going for it???

I haven't seen ammo for it on the shelves here in Anchorage, AK. See the occasional .416 Rigby and more .416 Rem Mag. It doesn't seem to be on the radar.

It'll be dead and gone within the next ten years. As long as it's Ruger only, and I zee no reason for that to change, it'll will gradually wear away as the new ears off and the few Ruger die hards that must have one, scratch the itch.
