While searching for a non-typical antelope I ran into some wild turkeys in a scenic are. these were all youngsters, but with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I thought appropriate. Dr.C

Nice bird.

Perhaps it's regional, but I've never understood the hunting shows where the hunter had to sit in a blind for two days in camo from head to toe, including a face mask, to get within striking distance of one of these guys. Around here they land in your yard and are considered a nuisance species in some areas. :)

YSam: FWIW , one of these guys jumped up on the hood of my car that same day with me in it and with camera and 400mm lens hanging out the window and the NFL on the radio. Go figure!! Dr.C

We regularly have to pause shooting on one or more of the ranges
at our local club and matches too while a whole line of them walk
so slowly across the range, totally oblivious to the lead flying around
them apparently.

A dozen or more of them walk through our back yard at least once a week, not fifteen paces from the back door. But if you so much as turn the knob on the door latch, they are GONE like you would not believe.

We have actually had them walking around on the deck, and last spring there were like two dozen of them all around the house one morning . . . some of them up on the roof. Have no idea what they were doing up there. They woke us up stomping around and pecking at the shingles.

Strange, interesting critters.

A royal pain here too.They love to eat the wife's flowers,much to her disdain.Small flock of fourteen.Probably be more than this this winter.They stay the winter then leave for better pastures in the spring.Can't keep the bird and squirrel feeders full because of them.

Yosemite Sam - We have lots of turkey here in Southern NH and you'd think it be easy to get up close and take one, but it's not. They have great eyesight and the moment they sense that you are a threat, they take off.

I used to live in your neck of the woods: Nashua, Merrimack and Manchester. Owned my first house in Manchester, west side, near the Bedford line.

I've had turkeys land in my yard here (Oregon) and practically wait for me to walk up to them. Being birds, they do tend to be alert and paranoid, so I'm sure they'd be frustrating as heck to actually hunt.

Stoots: I was in N andS Carolina last week, you people really have some beautiful fall foilage!! We just have an occasional cottonwood tree usually located down in a draw!! Thanks for looking at my "icon". Gary
