The wife and I were speaking about how 112 years ago, if you had said that in less that 60 years we were going to walk on the moon and within less than 100 would have a space station 212 miles above the Earth, someone would have thought you had been nipping grandpa's corn squeezins'. I told her that I had flown in a plane that the loading area was longer than the entire first flight. The C-5 Galaxy floor area was HUGE!
From my friend's back porch you can see the monument at Kill Devil Hills. Thank you Orville and Wilbur.

Folks often ask me, jokingly, if I were one of the Wright brothers.

Well, I was. But the Wrights of Tennessee, not Ohio.

Bob Wright

Here is why I said the first flight took place at Kitty Hawk. I was also concerned that some would not know it as Kill Devil Hills.
Have ben to the monument many times. Flying our plane and landing next to the monument at First Flight Airport gives me chills.
Son and family went for the 100th anniversary. The replica flyer was not able to get off the ground.

At the time of their flight, the town of Kill Devil Hills did not exist, having received its municipal charter in 1953. Kitty Hawk, popularly noted as the site of the famous flights, is approximately four miles to the north, and was the nearest settlement at the time of the famous flight.

I drove a busload of kids to Nags Head in the summer of '77 for a week's vacation and we visited that location.
