Testing the water, Ruger Legacy Kansas Edition "Proof"

Friend asked me to see if this pistol is anything a collector would want.

Ruger Special Edition Kansas Legacy "Bill Hill Lake" Ruger Vaquero 45LC. Appears to be polished stainless, 7.5" barrel, unfired, but shows turn line on cylinder, engraved, has "proof" engraved on bottom of butt. In a walnut display case. He wants 2000.00 plus shipping.
Any interest, is the price about right ?


I can send pictures. I do not own the revolver, just helping a friend, do not know anything about the collector (or lack of) value.

"proof" indicates a sample for establishing a group purchase or small lot of commemorative guns. The key is how many were actually made/sold, if any? Often these types of special editions are optimistically ordered in lots of 50, but actually sold in ten-lots... as anticipated interest wanes.
Unless provenance is documented, It's a loner sample, a straight polished Vaquero with sample engraving or inlays, etc.
"Any interest, is the price about right ?" - - I'd guess about $650-ish if no inlays; plus any value of the display case, etc.
What a drag that some monkey-paw had to turn the cylinder anyway (pun intended).

Sorry about the info post in a Classifieds ad - maybe a better place to ask value is in the Collecting or Revolver sections?

Maybe someone else knows more about a "Bill Hill Lake" lot?

Proper documentation would be necessary or it's all simply here say. It's nothing I've heard of nor anything a few different searches have found anything on. If it's 100% Ruger factory work it's one thing, if it's post-factory and/or not factory initiated it's a completely different thing. The later would, to me, make it quite difficult to sustain it's value at anything close to $2000. Perhaps if the engraver was one of the GOOD hand engravers it would give some added value but otherwise... Regardless, it's all in what can be proved as what is claimed means nothing without 100% undeniable proof. Otherwise, it's simply an engraved Vaquero.


Re: the request for a pic... Well, seems you took that as a whole different manner than what I'm sure it was intended. Kinda a nice gesture to include an image with anything not commonly seen and in this case to provide those you're asking, a bit of a visual to maybe kickstart something in them. Not exactly a difficult task to do so either. The response to the pic request...THAT was more of an offensive manner than the casual request. Remember, how one portrays themselves here, or any public arena, especially when they're the one needing information goes a LONG ays in getting that which they seek. Just sayin'... ;)
