Tapered ear MK II .22?

Did I miss something? I didn't realize that Ruger did a "tapered ear" MK II. Was this just on a few special models or was it on all of them? Does the MK III have tapered ears?

Yes...when the first stainless Mark II pistols came out in about 1984 or so, they had tapered bolt ears. There were periods throughout Mark II production where the ears could be tapered or normal.
All Mark III pistols have tapered ears.

Ruger's Korean War era .22 pistols (standards and Mark I's) and the tapered ear stainless Mark II's at least all had a bolt body separate from the "ear" component, in order to save material and machine time. Looking closely you can tell that the Mark II tapered ear is a cast piece instead of machined. I'm not sure if Ruger's tapered ear bolts on their Mark III pistols are two-piece or not.

This is what the two piece tapered ear version of the Korean War era looks like. They could come two ways. One with the Flat on the bottom, and one with the flat on the top. See pictures below.

But...stainless only for the tapered ear Mark II. No blued Mark II's were built with tapered ear bolts.
