Hi Folks, it occurred to me the other day while getting my gear together to go to the range that I’m a bit superstitious. I take a old Buck knives hat my oldest daughter got me for Father’s Day years ago with me every trip. Very rarely need it for the sun in my eyes. I normally don’t wear a cap. Ok, not gonna say why I take it and jinx myself-Dave

jinx, and the likes, means you believe in powers greater than the true creator.
my opinion is...its all hoooie.
its much easier to pray and ask to have a safe and enjoyable day shooting.....and receive it!

For me it's not superstition it's ritual. In a competitive or sport type activity I
do everything the same, every time, immediately prior to an event.
For example hockey, I'll dress in exactly the same order, stretch out the same,
check out the ice....everything the same.
Race car is the same story, dressing, belts, helmet, same deal.
I think it's a form of mental prep, clearing your mind, getting focused, that
kind of thing.

Hmm, in hindsight superstition was probably the wrong way to express what I meant. Trust me there is no higher power to me than God. Lol, funny you say I should pray on the way to the range Bobski for safety & such- because I actually do. Anyways, having the hat with me every time is just comforting since it was a gift from my Daughter-Dave

My mom was one of the most superstitious people I ever knew growing up. Stepping on cracks in the sidewalk, walking under ladders, etc. I broke a few mirrors and, oh man, she made me feel like my life would be in limbo for the next seven years. Fortunately, those traits weren't passed down to me. Just the same, I miss the ol' gal! 
Not me. Mom and Grandma were but I just don't have time for it.
During a typical hunting season, I'll change guns several times, wear whatever I happen feel comfortable in, and so on. I've never really had a "good luck charm" although I did run up an impressive score of one shot kills with a custom 7x57 Mauser and considered it infallible. Later, I tried another rifle in a different caliber and found it did just as well so the "good luck rifle" was just being in the right place with a(ny) good rifle.
In my later years, I've found I lose things frequently so I quit carrying the sentimental attachment equipment like the good older knives and such. I found that a moderately priced (under $20)Cold Steel Pendleton LITE will field dress a deer(or 2) just as well as the $40 BUCK or the priceless QUEEN first fixed blade I ever had knife.
