I've been toying with this idea for a while now. I'm just about to begin reloading for my SBH .44 mag. I figure that after a little playing around most people work up a load that their particular firearm likes and stick with it. If one was to shoot the same load all the time then an adjustable sight would become more of a hindrance than a benefit and a fixed sight like the rear trench the vaquero sports would be an excellent option.

Does such a sight exist for SBH?

I think I could make a trench sight that would replace the factory adjustable sight, anyone done it before?

Is my logic totally off?

Makes total sense to me. I don't know of anyone that makes what you want although Bowen and others make rough service adjustable sights that are less obtrusive.

I think it would be simple to make one that fills the cut out in the top of the frame and is retained with the existing pin.

Or just get a 44 Mag vaquero with a 7 1/2" barrel. File the existing sq notch in the back of the trench sight for the load it likes the best.

That's what I did except I like short barrels.

As far as I'm concerned, adjustable sights become fixed sights after I sight in my revolver.

But the adjustable sight on the Ruger, and most other revolvers, offer a sight picture that is superior to the "trench style" rear sight of fixed sight revolvers. Why? Because this type of fixed sight features a sort of rounded top surface which makes holding precise elevation difficult. Often times there is a tendency to place the front sight even with the top of the frame, others sort of on a radial line so as to be along the imagined arc.

If you're dead set against adjustable sights, here is a good alternate:
