Someone recently gave me three boxes of Winchester subsonic 9mm ammo. It is 147 grain jacketed controlled expansion for law enforcement. I haven't seen subsonic ammo discussed on the forum, but I am a new member. I have an sr9c and love the way it shoots. I would appreciate comments on the subsonic issue with the sr9c and the fact that it is stated on the boxes to be for law enforcement.

Subsonic ammo just travels less than 1,126 ft/s. There's no reason it should cause any issues at all. It's just the nature of heavy 147 grain 9mm ammo, although all 147 grain may not be subsonic.

I've had some of that ammo before and it shot fine (I didn't use it in the SR9c) because I didn't even own it then, and the LEO only, is nothing to worry about either.

Just shoot it.

Same thing happened to me with LAWMAN For Police Use only...turns out nowadays it's pretty much a sales gimmick, but in the past it may actually have been true.

Kinda natural for 147-gr 9mm ammo to be subsonic. Heavier bullet, so speed will be reduced unless the pressure is increased. I like Federal HST 147-gr for carry, but have used the WWB 147-gr JHP in a pinch.
