Stutz Blackhawk

I have a subscription to Handloader. A June July 2017 issue, article on our favorite firearm company, says the name "Blackhawk" comes from the Stutz automobile. I knew "Bearcat" did. I never knew "Blackhawk" did also. Dave Scovill is the author. I wanted to share this. I bet many already knew this.

I suppose “Single” as to the influence the S.A.Army had on Bill Ruger to design this .22. And 6 shot

Blackhawk was an Indian chief and there wase the "Blackhawk War: Bearcat is an "English/American" term for the Binturong

Yes, and Ruger had a special Blackhawk to commemorate Chief Blackhawk. In a wooden case. With an arrowhead. Special engraving

Makes sense, the Stutz Bearcat was a smaller version of Stutz Blackhawk. Bill Ruger designed his revolvers like this, too.

The Single Six was a Packard of that period referring to its engine. Bearcat and Blackhawk were indeed Stutz model automobiles.

Packard was the only auto manufacturer that ever gave Roll Royce any cause for concern.

Thanks Bob, I recall that now. I do not remember where I read that. But Bill Ruger had a love for cars. Sailboats, too

I think Bill Ruger collected Stutz cars.

Bob got it. I understand the original Santoprene grip with wood inserts was inspired by the dash on Ruger's mid 70's BMW.

Quite the car guy. At one time he even wanted to build and sell a Ruger automobile....

The wolverine is and has been referred to as a " Bearcat ". It's reputation far outweighs the actuallity of it's ferociousness.
