I worked in Alaska with a lady that lives in downtown Sturgis. I need to visit someday. Just not this year!

I am getting too old, no tolerance for drunken buttheads, last time I was there was in 1974, I had a ball and always figured I could never have that much fun any more without being arrested or dying from the excess partying.

About 1968 I hit the last Harley Davidson sponsored Death Valley run. It was something else. I left the San Fernando Valley area late at night after working swing. We spotted camp fires around Mohave and on in to Death Valley. Once we got on the edge of death valley it sounded like a thunder storm in the distance with all the loud bikes. Things were wild all over!
Another time about the same year I and a GF took a Harley ride to the Kern River. I think it might have been over Memorial day week end. We slept in sleeping bags on the Kern. I hadn't known but it seemed to be a get together for all the 1% type MC riders in California and states around. There was partying and boom box's all night. I heard hollering and drinking going on. The next morning a body next to death was found less than 100 yards away from where we were trying to sleep! a deputy working the case told me it was a local Indian with his face kicked in and didn't think he would make it! In those days I rode Harley dressers. Now days it seems to be the old Vet type ride the dressers and trikes. I recall a Kernville gas station attendant wearing a six gun which was highly unusual back then. Another time a buddy and me went way out on a desert location somewhere off 395 between Mohave and Lone Pine to shoot and explore. About 3 miles off the highway we started running into a huge encampment of counter culture type grouped and camping all over something like Woodstock. We definitely were the opposite of the type. And just drove through. I never did see or hear anything in the news or other sources who they were. There were several thousand`s there and it seemed to be bands etc. Mostly hippy type with VW Micro bus`s etc.

After seeing all the fancy trucks and trailers parked at motels some distance from Sturgis I thought of a good business. One could get a big pile of bugs and tar particles and offer to spray them on those bikes in the trailers so the squids that ride them would look more like they rode all the way there. Maybe sand blast their leather jackets to look older for an extra fee.

Yesterday we were on the freeway 35 miles from the nearest shelter or building. A thunderstorm with heavy rain, some hail and lighting hit. I passed a group of three or four Harley`s and was tempted to pull alongside and yell out how much would they take for a bike but restrained the temptation as I wanted to live.
