Stopped at a pawn shop today

I was driving down a street I hadn’t been on before and stopped at a pawn shop that advertised “guns and pawn.” Yes the guns part was first.

But inside it was a regular pawn shop with probably 2 dozen guns at most. Some rifles and then black plastic.

Only I couldn’t tell which guns. They were displayed so you could really only see the top of the slide. They were too close together to see the side of the guns and then the tags were under the next gun over.

It was just a terrible way to display guns. So I didn’t buy anything and just left.

But wait! There’s more!!! (Ha ha ha)

They did have some ammo. Not much, and over half of it was 7.62x51. What ammo is that for? They must’ve had 20 boxes of it. Couldn’t see any price tags. Then they had some 22 magnum and that was about it.

Definitely not Guns and Pawn with “guns” first.

It has been my experience that "good deals" at pawn shops are few and far between these days unless you get way off the beaten path. Most of them seem to be asking almost new prices for any pistol of any type. I did find an old Mossberg bolt action, magazine fed .22 that shot .22 shorts, longs, and long rifle for $100 the summer before last. The stock was in excellent shape and the gun had some honest wear on it but it shot true. Someone had cut 3/4 of an inch or so off of the stock t shorten the overall LOP on it. Somewhere, I bet there is a very unhappy little old Granny wanting her varmit gun back.

Just like anywhere else,, deals are to be had when you hunt for them. I've found some deals in pawn shops,, thrift stores, gun shows, & even gun shops.

You educate yourself on a product,, and then you keep your eyes open & start hunting.

Heck, a few decades ago,, I was pawn shop hopping with a friend. We went into one,, and as I scanned the ammo selection,, I saw a beat up box of .5mm RF ammo. I asked about it,, and then the clerk said; "I've got a bunch more in the back." He went & got a grocery bag with over 60 boxes of ammo in it. He wanted $4 a box. I borrowed all the money my buddy had & took all I had & bought over 40 boxes of the stuff.
That night, I called a guy who'd asked me to find him some of that ammo. Well, I knew what it was selling for at the time,, which was $30-$50 a box. He came by the next day & picked up 20 boxes at $25 a box. I sold the rest at a gun show for $35 a box, and it went QUICKLY!

Deals can be found,, you just have to look for them. You won't find a deal each & every time you go into a place,, but when you do find a deal,, you SMILE a lot.

Back in the 80s/90s Cash America used the same code for everything it sold, and it was on the tag on every item they had for sale. I learned it from a company I sold to , still in business in FT Worth, who sold millions into the pawn industry.
The code gave the cost paid and was there so the Cash America employee could negotiate a price without needing management approval.

While I was at Son's house in Fredericksburg VA I decided to go into a local Pawn which I very seldom do. Most of the time they have over priced junk . Well a big surprise they had a Mag. marked Single-Six with Eagle on Barrel and an XR3-RED grip frame that was in GREAT shape. One of 700 made and price was around $300. OH yea it also had the box for it and extra 22LR cylinder. Called Son and the deal was done.:)
