Stiatite Gorget

Does anyone have an idea what this is worth? I got it from an older gentleman and he said it was a steatite (soapstone) gorget. He found it years ago while working in California. He had it with some turkey calls I bought and told me to take it and sell it. It is 6 3/4" at the bottom and 2 3/4" at the top. Im going to sell it but I don't know what to ask. They are all over the place with pricing on ebay. Any help is appreciated.

I'll give you 5 bucks for it! You ain't kidding about the prices on eBAy being all over the place. I'm still not sure what they are though. At first I thought you made a spelling mistake. But nope, stiatite gorget is correct. Are they supposed to be amulets or something? Like some charm necklace? I don't know who would pay the few hundred on eBAy they want. It seems a lot for a piece of carved sandstone, which is fairly soft to begin with. And determining the age would also be difficult. If you find out let us know please.

That was almost my exact thought on first sight.

I did a search on this. Soapstone Gorget. I found it could be common in Mo. Indian artifact. They wore them around their neck.

A gorget is a neck protector usually worn with some kind of armor. Just got to Google and select images and put in gorget.
