Yep, I'm part of the problem...

I picked up 48lbs of powder from Powder Valley, 5500 Primers from the local shop and a few hundred pieces of brass.

I'm not done, I still want to get a few thousand more bullets but that will have to wait until next payday. :)

That should last a week ... maybe two :) . I been just 'maintaining' my stock. Not letting it get down (powder and primers). Hopefully enough voters will see the 'error' of their ways this time around and vote for America this time and we can start backing out the socialist/nanny state direction we are heading.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do any hoarding since Yomama was elected, because I've been overseas for the past four years. I just read Brownells WebBench newsletter, and they say that ammo is going to be in short supply again this year, as a minimum. All of the ammo manufacturers have already announced price increases due to take effect shortly as well.

My first purchase when I get back to the States is going to be a few cases of primers and some more powder. I think I've got enough brass to last me for a while for most cartridges that I shoot often. Then I may start picking up fresh Wolf steel .223 and .45 ACP cases at the range; they're good for 1-2 additional loads. Oh, add lead to the list.

Last weekend I loaded about 300 rounds of .45APC, I am going to try to load 500 rounds of .40 S&W tomorrow. My stock pile isn't as big as some of you guys but it will build up over time, especially now that I bought the SR22PISTOL and I go go to the range and kill paper with the really cheap stuff

Matt

I still have not touched my Clinton era stockpile let alone my first Obama stockpile. Yes I am one of those guys. Should of got to the store before me.

I picked up all 8lb jugs this time, Promo for my 12 gauge, Titegroup for my 40 and 45, and Hunter for my 6.5 Creedmoor and probably other rifle cartridges as I work up loads. Its a very versatile powder as it sits between the 4350s and 4831s.

I shoot a lot of Trap and Promo works well for high volume shooting. At $85 for an 8lb keg its very economical and it duplicates Red Dot so I could use it in some pistol loads if I want to. Titegroup also works in shotshell loads but is primarily a pistol powder, its also a ball powder so it meters well through the Dillon.

Good idea BUT I'd do some math on the loads you are using the powder for...I figure 1000 primers OR MORE per pound of TITEGROUP or PROMO in my pistols. Rifles average 250 primers per pound of powder in .223, 30/30, .308 and 45/70. Extra primers, powder, and brass would also make good trade goods. AND don't forget 22 Long Rifle and 12 gauge in the inexpensive promo ammo from WAL-MART, etc.

My current list is all 8 pound kegs...HP38, TITEGROUP, PROMO, 2400 for pistols and several kegs of WC-844 surplus powder for rifles. PLUS primers in the amounts I mentioned.

Oh, I have plenty of primers, the 5500 just topped off the supply. I get about 3200 shotshells from a keg of Promo.

The primers I got were some mixed LR-BR, LR, LP, & SP. I have a few cases of .22LR bulk pack.

You're the problem. :D

To be honest, the title was a joke. This stuff will last me a year tops. I only bought so much to save money in the long run. I shoot a lot.

Yeah, I got that email too.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks the fix is in and these guys are gonna milk this year for all it's worth. Worked out well for the entire gun/ammo industry 3-4 years ago.

THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING

When The Great Ammo Famine started in 2007, we were told it was because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan eating up all production capacity. Well we're out of Iraq now and supposedly winding down in Faroffistan, we should be getting all that production capacity back and prices should be coming DOWN. What's the excuse this time? :? :? :?

I reckon I need to stock up myself to get ahead of the stupid hoarders. Just so I'll have enough to shoot.

Ammo prices don't seem affected by supply and demand. Demand makes the prices go up and then they stay up regardless of demand. I'm talking about real world average retail, not $60.00 a box .380 Auto and other absurdities. In August 2008 I was buying Remington UMC 9X19 and .38 Special for $8.99 a box regular price. A year later the exact same 9mm was $13-14.00 and .38 Special was close to $20.00 a box and they've been the same ever since.

Got my package today. I don't know how to decode Hodgdon's lot number, but Alliant and Ramshot both have the date produced in theirs. I was a bit surprised to find that the powder was almost a year old already. Powder Valley obviously has a very high turnover rate, so to me this suggests that supply lines are in good shape.

As soon as it warms up a bit I'm gonna make a few batches of shot.

I'm getting low on SR primers and the price on those is getting higher. I'll have to get stocked up soon.

DUNNS SPORTING GOODS in Pevely MO...mile marker 180 on I-55...has some PMC and another brand of small rifle for under $20....and they got a jilllion of them. HI-TECH AMMUNITION in St Louis MO has surplus powder for $80 for eight pounds and various primers in stock PLUS other rifle components. The wife is going past GRAFS this week to visit her sister....she will have a list or a box sitting there waiting for her to pick up. Eight pounders of TITEGROUP or HP38 go a long way...about ten thousand primers per keg is nice also.

Not to offend, but calling people HOARDERS for maintaining a high level of reloading components or ammo while doing the same yourself is not very (fill in a word you prefer.) The situation four years ago got pretty bad and I am/will be in considerably better shape this time around.

I think it woke a lot of us up. I know I won't be 'caught' sleeping again. Primers is the big thing for me, so have been slowing increasing my stock, even as I use it. I've settled on a several powders now so will increase my stock in them when I find 'em. But now that I've worked up quite a few 'alternate' powder loads it isn't as big an issue (unless they are all gone of course).

BTW, I couldn't believe my eyes last night when I walked through the sports department at Walmart.... They are now selling primers, powder, and bullets! Knock me over with a feather. The primer cost was 60 cents cheaper than other shops around town too. Had to buy a few. Powder prices were comparable.

That will work. Things may get more heated if BHO gets a 2nd term.

Yes, wouldn't be a bad idea to start stocking up now. It'll be worse next time because he'll have even less to lose since he'd be a lame duck pres and wouldn't give a damn what gun owners valued. He made that clear with your average citizen when he forced healthcare reform down our throats all the while telling us that we'd be able to read online what it would entail before it was passed. He's a silver tongued congenital liar & you can bet he'll come after gun ownership the next time around.

May or may not be another sign of the situation, but I went yesterday to place an order with Missouri Bullets for some cast .38 sp, .357 Mag and .45acp in various weights and configurations and all were out of stock with an expected 2 week delay. :?

A shortage of shooting supplies is the least of our problems if this clown gets re-elected.

The proposed new gun laws in Illinois, from his associates like Rahm Emmanuel, are probably what he would like to do on a national level...and he will have even less restraint as a lame duck." Add in his economic policies and social engineering...we're experiencing those already...and things are getting tough and will get worse.

TODAY might not be a bad day to do some shopping...
