My pistol is new and I cleaned the barrel but I am not comfortable taking the striker apart could I spray some cleaner into the area a let it sit and then run some air thru it to remove some of the grease.

You can use Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber Synthetic Safe Cleaner to spray into the striker channel. This stuff will evaporate very quickly. However, at some time down the road, you will need to remove the striker to clean it thoroughly.

Available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Birchwood-Casey-Scrubber-Synthetic-13-Ounce/dp/B002E6T5FE/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1327280272&sr=1-1

Just spraying it wont remove the tiny brass shavings that tend to cause the light strike issues. So it will have to be taken apart at some point. Mine still gets a few shavings after a few hundred rounds through it.

It's really not difficult to do and nothing is going to come flying out at you. This video shows how easy it is to pull out.

Just relax and take your time. If you can remove the slide for cleaning you can do the striker.

It is really pretty easy. I did mine after watching the video a coupleof times. Now it is part of the regular post shooting cleaning process. It is a little tricky to get the back cover peice back on, but after you do it a coupl eof times it gets easier.

Thanks, I'll be getting an SR9c in the next couple of weeks, and I was going to look up how to disassemble and clean the striker channel. Didn't realize Ruger had a video that included it.

Will be completely disassembling and cleaning mine before going to the range.

Yaa, I did it only used my fingers for first part and a small nail into the black insert and it came out and putting it back on was just as easy. Thanks everyone.

Good for you. I was going to post that if I could do it, and I am the most complete klutz and mechanically inept person you could ever know, then you surely could. It really is simple...I wish they made the LC9 that simple!

I'm pretty new to handguns and I just did it. I lightly cleaned it and did find some scrap brass in there. Not good. It was very easy. I removed the magazine disconnect, which was also easy. I'm very happy I learned how. I even did a little burr cleanup, which I'm sure I shouldn't have to do, but did it anyways.

I say go for it. It's your baby, gotta learn how to change it's diapers.
