Recently I reported on a holster for my SR22P made by Davis Leather.

I was so pleased with their work, I just ordered and received the same model of holster for my SR40c.

WAYNO.

Very good thanks. The Mitch Rosen's currently on back order from the Ruger store. Hopefully it throws more customers his way.

For a concealed carry holster - not IWB - Blackhawk has a Serpa holster that fits all SR models; SR9, SR9C, SR40 and SR40C. Of course, for the Compact models, the muzzle will not extend to the bottom of the holster - but IMHO, that's better than having the muzzle sticking out of the bottom.

I like the Serpas too, but I do not like a holster longer than it needs to be. Otherwise, I may as well carry the full-size SR9 or 40.

I have Serpas for fullsize 1911's and Commander size, one of each for both sizes of guns. It's just a matter of time til they make a compact-size Serpa for the Rugers.

But as much as I like my Davis holster, there's no reason for me to buy a shorter Serpa for the compact Ruger, even if they decided to make one.

And yes, that's only my opinion, and other folks may have different preferences.

WAYNO.

Wayno... I understand completely. Unfortunately, I don't have much of an option. I needed a level II or III holster - either a Safariland 6377 Series or a Blackhawk Serpa - no other make would do. Only the Serpa filled the bill.

I also have an Uncle Mike's #15 (I believe - it's not right in front of me) that I will use when I don't have to wear the Serpa. Just the right size.

So...The Serpa is pretty stout. Is there any reason a guy couldn't cut off the excessive length? Before I found the Davis holsters, and I did want a Serpa, that's what I planned to do, is cut the end off.

Cutting off the extra 1/2" or so was one of the first things I thought of when Blackhawk told me the holster for the SR9 & SR40 would fit, but there would be the extra at the bottom.

After looking at the Serpa, I don't know if I'd cut the extra off. The bottom 3/8" or so is a little thicker, as you can see in the picture, and appears to maybe give the Kydex a little structural integrity. Plus, if cut off, then the band coming down the side from the trigger guard would suddenly stop. I guess it's a matter of preference.

BTW, the Uncle Mike's holster is a Size 15 belt loop pancake style. It brings the grip of the weapon a little closer to the body, unlike the Serpa, which keeps the grip away from the body. The muzzle of the SR40C is right at the bottom of the Uncle Mike's - doesn't stick out and doesn't fit short of the bottom like the Serpa.

Interesting. How about the "fit"? I've tried adjusting the screw on the side of the Serpa, but the 40C is still a tight fit. Does it loosen a bit with the trimming of the bottom?

I guess my other obstacle - I hate to trim something that costs more than a couple of $$$'s. Take 3/8"-1/2" off of something that costs $30+ and I feel like I'm cheating myself. :?

the fit of my 40c still seems to be a bit tighter than that of my 9c, but neither are unbearably tight!
