On Dec. 20th I picked up a new SR22 hand gun from a local dealer, and I've been suffering a major headache since...
Right out of the box, it was shooting about 7-8 inches to the left and about 4 inches low at 20 feet. The sights were near perfectly centered on the slide. I attempted to adjust the rear sight to fix the windage, but I only got about a 4 inch correction when I hit the adjustment limit and the sight almost fell apart. The elevation wasn't as bad, but I know I was very near it's adjustment limit as well. And to add insult to injury, both of the white dots fell off the rear sight after less than 40 rounds. I had some white automotive paint and was able to put them back... I wanted to post this and find out if anyone else had the same issue(s). I should also note a few variables here too. I've put four different brands of ammo through it. Winchester M22, Remington golden bullet HP, two different types of Fiocchi, and CCI SV and HV. And they all group in the same place. And that's another thing, the gun groups very well. I can't figure out if it's problem with the sights or something inside. Everything functions normally and nothing looks damaged or out of the ordinary. Right out of the box, my bore sighter said it was right on.
I've been working with the gun for about a week now (3 days of actual shooting) and I was able to line up the sights to make it work.... kinda.... I ended up sliding the entire rear sight to the right until the right side was hanging off the slide by about 2mm. The blade was also to right making the left white dot centered over the hammer. I was shooting tight groups at 20 feet, but after checking it again with the bore sighter, it told a very different story - still low and to the left. Having the rear sight that far off center makes shooting feel very awkward. I put in a request with Ruger earlier today to see what they can do to help me. But really, I'm regretting buying this thing, and wish I could just get my money back and forget this ever happened.
Aside from wasting $400 on the gun, I purchased a set of fire sights for it last week than I probably can't return. But the icing on the cake happened today at the range. Through my own stupidity (seems to be theme here) I somehow left my bore sighter at the lane I was shooting at, and now it's gone.... That was about $240 mistake I won't soon forget... This little pistol has cost me a lot...
