SR22

I'm looking to make this my first handgun. Would that be a good decision and if not what would you suggest? I dont really like the Mark series. I've shot them and they shoot great I just dont really like the looks of them. My wife who has never shot a pistol will also be using this. I like how easy it is to field strip too. Thanks for all of your help.

I believe I gave a longer answer to this in your post on the other Ruger forum . . . dunno what brings you to handguns, but a .22 is always good to have. And if you want a pistol, the SR22 is likely the best performer atm.

I think it is a good first handgun to own. Inexpensive to shoot. Very easy to handle. Not a lot of bark from the pistol to intimidate a new shooter. very low recoil

I agree with everyone here. The SR22P is a great first pistol, or just a great little pistol period. I liked mine so well I bought a second one. Very reliable, and surprisingly accurate due to the fixed barrel.

It's a crimson trace rail master. I think the model number is CRM-201. You can do a google search for it and find different places that sell them.

My new SR22 is my first handgun (or gun of any sort, for that matter). I think it is a great selection. I too disliked the looks of the Mark series. The SR22 is much better in that department. Field strip is VERY simple. Ergonomics are wonderful, at least for me. My wife and kids shoot it and love it, but it's still a nice little range gun for me too, as it is accurate enough to use at 25-50 yards, as you build your skills.

I haven't owned others, but I have shot others. I think the SR22 is a great choice for affordability (one of the cheaper 22's), dependability (zero FTE's so far, and a few FTF's that were likely ammo, not gun, related) and usefulness (I think it could make a decent carry pistol, if it's all you have.

My bro-in-law has the S&W22a. It is larger, with a longer barrel, so it may be more accurate, but has had FTEs, and is not a very practical carry gun due to its size.

My dad has the Beretta Neos. Again, it is larger, and has had a few more FTF/FTE's than my SR22. It also looks like it belongs in StarWars, not in my gun safe.

Perhaps the only drawback for the SR22 is the fact that a sight is easier to mount on the S&W or Neos, if that's important to you. I think the iron sights on the SR22 are just fine.

I just sold my Beretta U22 Neos and bought a Ruger SR22PB. I think the SR22 is more accurate and WAY more fun to shoot, at least in my hands.

I've been contemplating on buying a 22 pistol for some time. I was excited for the SR22 but disappointed when actually handling and shooting it. I was hoping that it would look and feel like the SR9, being that its from the SR series. And what's with the upside down manual safety? I have shot both the sr22 and m&p 22 for a few months now. My brother has the m&p 22 and my brother in law has the sr22. I have to say I'm loving the m&p 22. I feel its a better quality pistol. I like that its also a full size. In my opinion its more accurate as well. Just my 2 cents.
