Came home from LGS yesterday with a new SR22 and can't wait to get to the range next weekend. Wanted a 22 cal semi auto for plinking, etc. and the SR seemed to be the answer. I just wonder what the logic is behind the safety lever working in the opposite direction of the other SR's. My SR9C safety is on when lever is up and it seems a natural motion of the thumb to flip it down to disengage. Does this annoy anyone else :?:

Sure does - but I'm guessing that the downward press made its second function, decocker, easier to implement.

I find it only mildly annoying. This is pretty much a range-only weapon for me, so the safety is not much of a concern.

As TwoBoxer says, the safety position must have to do with ease of engineering. If it were equally easy for Ruger to go either way, they probably would have designed the safety to be "off" in the down position.

The only thing that i use the safety lever fore is a decock, so it works out perfect. With the DA trigger pull for the first shot, a safety is not needed and i never have it engaged. They are a great little pistol, my SR22p never misses a trip to the range, it is a good idea to take along plenty of ammo for it because it is pure fun.

Its the same way with my p22. Safe is, to me, in the fire position and fire is in the "safe" position.

Because it is an SR in name only. The other SR series are striker fired. This is a hammer design. Different design.

Perhaps people would be happier if Ruger just called it a S22, then it wouldn't have to have the same feature set as the other models in the SR series. It would also minimize the confusion with the SR22 rifle.

The SR22 does have more in common with some of the Ruger P series, but the name P22 is already taken.

I rarely use the decocker so I don't really care which way it functions.

Since I haven't even made a trip to the range with the SR 22, I was probably premature in being annoyed. Sounds like I will be able to get used to it.
Thanks for the input.

The Sr22 is a joy to shoot,I don't really care about the safety orientation,I don't use it.
