SR22 reliability

For what it's worth, I have more fte s with my Nano and P30. SR22 eats anything and what a blast to shoot. Bought upgraded guiderod and takedown lever. Latter was tough to install...bent two punches.

I love mine -- and I have kept it stock. "As is" seemed to be working fine, so I let it be. If you notice an improvement though, let us know.

Mine has been great. I’ve shot American Eagle bulk, Remington Thunderbolt and Golden bullets, CCI Stingers and Velocitors. The first half brick of American Eagles had quite a few fail to feeds where the slide didn’t strip the next round but the last half of the brick was trouble free. The Thunderbolts really leaded up the barrel but other than that shot OK. The Golden bullets and CCI ammo were perfect. I don’t believe I could like this great little pistol more.

I put another 500 through my SR22 yesterday. Besides being a blast to shoot, it has turned out to be a great teaching tool. I use it to teach and practice both aiming and trigger control. It has really made a difference with three young shooters I'm working with.

Bent 2 punches, wow. Were you using a 3/32" pin punch? I installed a twin tech the other day. Very simple 15 minute job.
Twin tech is emphatic about the punch size.

The sr/22 has my vote for the best running 22 pistol ive ever had my hands on.Wife and kids love it to, eats anything.
Was out of town to western michigan and this gun ran flawless even in a blizzard. Got about 10 inches that day and still shot flawless.

Took my new SR22 to the range a couple weeks ago. I shot about 200 rounds each of 4 different types of ammo. All cycled perfectly - in 800 rounds, not a single fte, stove pipe or malfunction. I love the stock trigger. Being able to rattle off 10 rounds as quick as I can and hit a 6" group from 25 feet is awesome. The only thing I found that is difficult to get used to is the safety - moving UP to fire instead of down seems awkward to me. But I'll adjust.

Have you guys seen the stainless slide version yet? I saw one last night in the case, it looks pretty good but on this gun I think all black is better.

Unfortunately It isnt a stainless slide. Its silver anodized aluminum. I intended to buy that version, until I saw it in person. Just didnt look that nice. Went with the all black gun.

I tried the golden bullets today and didn't have much luck. I had several fail to feed and 1 fail to fire. This is after around 300 round's of CCI min mags with no problems. Gun is new and just purchased yesterday.

All SR22s have aluminum slides. The black ones are anodized black and the silver ones clear anodized and left the natural aluminum color so, the only difference is appearance, not material.

I haven't had any problems with my SR22. I'm stocked up on Federal 22LR ammo so that's about the only ammo I've used.

I finally took my SR22 out today......I've been preoccupied with my 22/45 MK III upgrades. I love this pistol. Accurate & fun. I am a notoriously poor pistol shooter but you wouldn't know it watching me shoot the SR. I was shooting Winchester 525's and it ran great. (FWIW my 22/45 & 1022 both have nothing but ftfs & ftes with American Eagle ammo) I did a trigger upgrade, grip mod, mag release & installed a Burris Fastfire III on the 22/45 & it is a real shooter but I may have to try out the SR22 at rimfire competition this spring!

I've gone back and forth a few times over the past week deciding between the sr22 and 22/45. I think I'm going with the 22/45. I'm slightly concerned about the failures you mentioned, where you ever able to find a reliable ammo? Or was this just the norm on all types before you did the mods to it?

Good choice .... There's really no comparison in accuracy or reliability.

The only possible advantage I can see to the SR22 is it can be viewed as a cheap training tool if you already have an SR whatever, even though 'training' with a 22 is questionable training AFAIC.

Thanks,I actually decided against it mainly due to the safety, the direction for "safe", is reversed to my carry sr. I thought that could possibly be a bad habit to develop. I'd like to find the 22/45 "lite" with the threaded barrel. I don't have a silencer but I figure why not.

Agree on the .22 training aspect. The hardest thing for me to learn wasn't how to get a good first shot, that was never that hard for me, but a good 3rd or 4th in rapid fire. And for that I'm mainly fighting recoil to get back on target. This will be my fun gun, and something unlike I've ever owned before in design. All I've ever had is the "black pistols" which I've noticed are all amazingly similar.

I shot my new SR22 this weekend. Had some cycling issues and trigger resetting issues ( 4-5) with the first 25 shots. I was shooting CCI Velociter. Switched to Federal High Velocity, and shot 50 rounds, no problems. Went back to the CCI's and had no more issues. May have just been a break in issue. I was concerned to begin with, but this is definitely a fun plinker gun!

Exactly .... It's a plinker .... Good for shooting cans and bottles and steel targets.

When it comes to serious accuracy and groups .... There's no comparison to the MK's, either standard or 22/45, MK I, II, or III. It's not even close.

I enjoy mine, it is a plinker for sure but reliable in feeding and firing and it shoots just about anything, which is far better than most pistols that are made like it. It really is like shooting a Bic ligther, so accuracy does suffer. My old Comp. MK II is a tack driver.
