Funny, in late 60's I remember when the NH Fish&Game shut down black bear
season for the same reason. Bears were getting drunk on fermented apples
and Hunters were having a field day. ps

That is downright hilarious! I have a crab apple tree in my front yard that has apples still hanging on even this late (or early: however you want to count) and the squirrels don't go near then. They would rather attack my bird feeders. I wish they WOULD eat the apples.

I remember seeing a film on Nat Geo where there was some fruit along side a river that fermented and the monkeys, Elephants, and just about every other animal you can think of showed up to munch the fruit and great drunk; it was a hilarious film.
