I have a 5" Tactical and a 3" Sub Compact. I have talked with Dave Williams at the NRA shows, and he has shown me some trigger jobs for target XD's. Incredible!
So, I recently dropped the Sub Compact off at Geneseo to have the "Custom Carry" package done. Definitely worth the money. These were both fine shooters before, but now when I shoot them side by side, the difference is unbelievable. Besides the lighter trigger pull, (4.5 lbs) the action job includes a trigger stop and the reset is much shorter.
Now I either have to spend the money to do the same to my 5" model, or decide if I want to sell it. I carry the Sub Compact and find myself only shooting it now.
Oh yeah, one of magazines was the old 10-round and the replaced it with the newer 13-rounder. Great service.

Serious question: Would a trigger job done on a carry weapon by the manufacturer be more "OK" in court?

Time for some popcorn.

Absolutely. The view would be that if it were not safe, the manufacturer would not do it ... ALSO ... you're keeping the manufacturer (with the deep pockets) in the chain of responsibility. This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT with respect to liability. The manufacturer MAY even step up to cover any legal costs ... just to make sure that YOUR legal team doesn't do anything to compromise their position.

If you muck with the gun YOURSELF, or through a 3rd party (like Ghost), you have essentially given the gun manufacturer a pass, since they can easily (and legally) disclaim liability due to the fact that the gun was modified from their original specs.

I'd be a LOT less worried carrying a factory modified gun than a gun that had aftermarket parts 'dropped in' or if I had messed with the trigger myself.

Only makes sense ... right ???

That sounds really sweet. I know I like my XD-40 & it is bone stock.
Just as an aside-I thought carry was illegal in Illinois.

Mike, the no carry law in Illinois is largely ignored, hell the no handgun law in Chicago is almost completely ignored. I'm not saying it is right to break the law but I am reporting the facts

As revhigh said, by having the manufacturer do this option and test fire it, I have no worries about court issues should a need ever arise.
I carry this a lot in IL when hunting for sheds and or mushrooms in case I get a chance at a coyote, or in case I have run ins with skunks that are goofy during their mating season etc. I also work full time in Indiana and have a permit to carry there.
I really liked both my XD's, but after seeing some of the custom ones, I really wanted this done. This package also includes various sight upgrades. Because I carry this a lot in the timber I went with fiber optics instead on night sights. I have a Streamlight mounted on my 5" model for indoors and I keep a tactical Streamight with the sub compact.

That does sound very nice Rumrunner. The one modification I did to my XD-40 was to replace the stock sights with meprolights. Believe me when I tell you that you did well to pay someone else to change the sights for you. Putting the new ones in wasn't bad but it was extremely difficult to get the factory ones out. To say they are tight is an understatement.

Mike J,
I had a set of truglo tritium/fiber optic sights put on a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry. I gave up trying to remove the factory sights myself, and had it done by a gunsmith. Luckily this was part on the Custom Carry package on the XD.
