This is a very nice condition type 1 red eagle Standard Auto .22 LR pistol. Likely made in 1949, the first year Ruger was in business making firearms, and the only model made at that time. One of the first 1000 guns Ruger made, a "virtual 3-digit" serial number since the block from 0661 to 1999 was skipped. For whatever reason, once Ruger hit 0660, he decided to leap forward to 2000, possibly to fool the competition and critics into believing they were making/selling faster. That makes this one something like the 944th made, by serial number sequence. Has the rare/correct grips with screw escutcheons and the early magazine with the tip in the white. The unusual aspect of this pistol is the sights, which feature an adjustable Micro rear sight and a post (presumably also Micro but unmarked) front sight. These were available as an aftermarket kit. In short order, Ruger debuted the adjustable sight Mark I and the need for such an upgrade kit was greatly diminished. The sights look very nice on the pistol, less awkward looking than the similar kit installed on early Single Six revolvers. The look is similar to the T514 Mark I of later years.
