SP101 reassembly...need help

I took disassembled my SP101 tonight to install a new mainspring (12lb) and familiarize myself with the gun. Upon taking the trigger group out, the pawl spring flew out. I found it, reassembled the trigger group and put it back into the frame. I reinstalled the hammer. Upon cycling the action (before installing the mainspring) a few things are noticed:

The trigger pull is pretty heavy.

The cylinder won't fully rotate to the next notch unless the trigger is pulled really quickly. Upon reinstallation of the mainspring, the hammer will not cock into single action.

Any advice? I searched the net and reinstalled the pawl and the spring correctly (I believe).

While I am not familiar with the SP101, most of those springs work in combination with a plunger. When a spring launches so does the metal plunger.

The Ruger site has a downloadable PDF of the manual which includes a drawing of all parts and how they fit into the revolver.

Got it. The frame was VERY rough and needed some mild filing so the push button release that holds the trigger assembly to the frame could fully pop back in place.

Excellent, a lot of gunsmithing is just being observant and having a good head on your shoulders. These days every new gun really needs a detailed strip, a good cleaning, and removal of rough spots. Also, a bit of polishing of the moving contact surfaces goes a long way towards a smooth action.

Yep , just give the trigger group a lite wrap to insure the latch seats & gives the spring room enuff to compress all the way .

Don`t remove too much off theback of the trigger housing as this must be a snug fit or the housing will move a minuute amout & cause inconsistent trigger pulls.

This is what did it. I did some light filing/polishing of the area, would try it and see if it would lock back into place. If not, I repeated gently until it snapped back into place, so as not to remove too much.
