So I messed around with the trigger bar spring and was able to get it off, but am not sure I re-installed it correctly. The piece that runs down the length of the spring, is ther a certain way the top piece fits in? Does this make sense?

Sure it makes sense... I did exactly what they warned me NOT to do and pulled the trigger when the trig' assembly was out.

I had to go to the PDF manual (quicker than getting out the box) and look at the parts page.

Go to the Sturm Ruger web sight and go to the SP101 page... you can play the helpful videos.

See if this helps . . .

Call Ruger or you can download a manual.
That is a hammer main spring and strut. If you remove the trigger group then you will be playing with the trigger spring.
In the manual they say to remove trigger group with the hammr strut. If this gun has not been taken apart a few times you will find using the hammer strut a real pia. Go to the auction section here and get one of GP100 man's Ruger Poppers. Best money you can spend.

Ordered the Wolff Gun Springs and plan on installing a new hammer main spring. I plan on only doing the #10 and leaving the trigger spring stock.
